This book is not a bad introduction to selling put options and what the authors describe is more or less a complete system that may be scaled and implemented with a wide variety of stocks.

I say "more or less" because it is exceedingly difficult to implement the described approach and "safely earn 10-20% annual returns consistently, year after year," as claimed, in a low volatility environment (i.e. when the VIX is, say, 12-16). If you are a stickler for value and have some idea what particular stocks are really worth, the opportunities are even rarer, unfortunately.

The authors have reportedly been doing this for many years, so there ought to be lots of real-time examples to illustrate their approach. Yet as another reviewer wrote, referential examples in the text are almost nonexistent --much less to suggest the sustainability of 10-20% returns during a complete market cycle. When historical transactions are described in this book, the names are nearly always obscured. Most often, illustrations are hypothetically referenced as stock XYZ, etc.

A couple of additional quibbles: a few technical terms important to the implementation of the strategy (e.g. "primary support" and "secondary support") are nowhere clearly defined nor, once again, are actual examples provided.

To give the authors an opportunity to address these matters prior to writing my review, I emailed an inquiry using the email address provided on the back of the book, but encountered a return-to-sender notice; their stated web address is also unavailable (as it has been since I purchased the book in December 2012).

Even accounting for the above criticisms, this is a reasonably safe place to begin studying put-writing. You are likely to make money using this strategy without having stocks put to you. But you are probably not going to make "consistent 10-20% returns" during prolonged periods of market complacency.

The substance and organization of the book are great. The authors covered everything in the best possible "stepping stones" for the reader and, while demonstrating profit potential they also cautioned about risk and moving away from the necessary discipline. I liked it a lot. These are excellent writers and, most important of all, they covered the topic the way it needed to be covered. It's a fine book. I recommend it to every options trader or investor who wants to learn more about options.

I started selling put options approximately two years ago through the instruction of Richard Buchanan. Because it was new and unfamiliar, I was a little skeptical at first. However, after my first trade which by the way was successful, I WAS HOOKED! Two years later, I have been selling OTM puts with a 90% success rate. This book will help you to achieve the same results. If you are looking to make money SAFELY in this very volatile market, then you MUST read this book. Richard and Mark do a wonderful job of walking you through what some people perceive as a complex investment strategy. They break it down and present it in a format that allows the average individual to understand how to sell put options successfully. If you are looking to make money in a bull, flat or bear market, I highly recommend you purchase this book. I am confident you will add excitement to your investing and more important, you will garner greater returns.

This book contains the authors' detailed, useful and easily copied,
methods to select stocks on which to write naked put options.
Rather than re-hashing the usual definitions of options and the
use of option strategies, they get to the most important part of
option trading. Highly recommended.

I enjoyed the book and the approach the authors took. It was an easy read and really put everything into layman's terms. I especially liked their discussion of an options delta. They explained exactly what it is but then suggested viewing it instead as the probability that an option would actually be in the money by expiration. Pretty cute.
The one drawback is that the 10-20% returns they discuss assume a decent amount of volatility in the market. In periods of low volatility, these returns are a stretch.
If you are experienced in selling puts, there really is no new information in this book. They do however lay out a nice game plan. If you are a beginner or novice in this area, this is a great book.
Since I bought the book used, I did not get the cd that comes with it so I do not know how useful it is.

I found this book to be very educational and helpful in learning and understanding a great deal about selling OTM Put options. It explained what to do, how to do it and within what parameters to sell the Puts in. There is a presumption that you have some knowledge of the stock market already. He provides many different forms that you can use or modify in some way to suit yourself. The methods outlined are very conservative, which I very much appreciate. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with the rest of us!
