Praise for Agate B2's New York Times Best-Selling Series, IN THEIR OWN WORDS:

The Oracle Speaks: Warren Buffett In His Own Words edited by David Andrews reveals the life and business philosophies of one of the world’s most successful businessmen in a way no other book can… directly from the words of Warren Buffett himself. David’s book systematically covers a wide range of topics from ‘Investing’ to ‘Businesses’ and ‘Wealth and Taxes’ to ‘Life Lessons.’
Throughout The Oracle Speaks, several predominate themes are revealed:

- Value people more than things
- Stay with what you know and can understand
- Focus on the big picture, the long-term rather than the immediate gratification of the here and now

I like The Oracle Speaks because it reveals the intimate thoughts and beliefs of a man who through his own intellect and hard work created one of the world’s most successful businesses. Readers will note that Warren Buffett’s assertions are commonly made from an investor’s frame of reference and do require some ‘translation’ to other situational applications. While I recognize that some may disagree with Warren Buffett’s approach to certain circumstances – and on occasion I do too – all can agree that he, more than many others, has had a profound impact on many of the largest, most revered companies.

I appreciated the layout of The Oracle Speaks, the organization of quotes around meaningful topic areas, the dating of each quote, and Warren Buffett’s life story timeline provided at the end of the book. I found that knowing the setting and circumstances of the Warren Buffet quotes provided insightful context from which to interpret them. As such, I recommend first-time readers review the ‘Milestones’ timeline presented at the end of the book first and refer to it often when reading individual quotes.

For it’s intimate portrayal of an American entrepreneurial icon, The Oracle Speaks is a StrategyDriven recommended read.

All the Best,
Nathan Ives

If you're thinking of getting this book in order to find hot stock tips, there aren't any here. But if you're looking for good, common sense advice and an insight into what makes one of the best-ever stock-pickers tick, this book will give you that and a bit extra.

The book is filled with quotations from Warren Buffett about a wide array of topics including life, investing, outlook, charity, and family to name a few. They were gleaned from a number of sources over several decades.

Reading through these quotations, I was struck by how clearly reasoned, uncluttered, and straight-forward these were were. They all served to draw a picture of a man who has his priorities set and is comfortable with who and what he is while being grateful for the opportunity to exercise his talents in the where-and-when he was born into.

There is a section of the book that lists the holdings of Buffett's company, Berkshire Hathaway, including those businesses that are wholly owned by his investment company. Several on the list were a surprise to me, but underscored how diversified the investments are. And now I finally know where the name of the firm came from.

Recommended. It won't make you rich in the stock market, but it might help better define your general outlook on life.

I purchased this for my Kindle Paperwhite, but actually read the entire book in one sitting at my computer in a browser window using the "Kindle Cloud Reader." This book was exactly what I was looking for. Previously I had known almost nothing about Warren Buffet beyond what I had learned a day earlier from a 45 minute Netflix biography. These fascinating quotes, arranged by subject, were interesting and full of priceless business wisdom. I feel much wiser and knowledgeable due to having read this book and look forward to learning even more about Mr. Buffet now that I have a good feel for his way of thinking.

The oldest quote in the book is less than 15 years old. For a quote book of such a published and oft quoted octogenarian I would have expected more depth. To be fair I follow the Oracle more than is healthy but even so, this book seemed like a google search of recent memorable Buffet quotes. Nothing new to see here.

Mr. Buffett knows about VALUES - financially, of course, but personal values like principles, integrity, and personal responsibility. I think luck has played a part in his phenomenal success, being born during the best time period in this country's history. It seems generations after his are missing the drive to succeed, and we just get more and more complacent.

If you can read his story and not come away with an enormous amount of respect for his character, and the importance of character, you will probably continue to be poor, regardless of the size of your portfolio.

This was a free download from Amazon.com for the Kindle. I'm 71, so I don't ever expect to read it in my lifetime. I'm sure it's well written, though. Who knows more about making smart investments than Warren Buffett?

The Oracle Speaks. This book is nothing like what I expected, but it was such an inspirational story. I should state that this is just a book of quotes from various interviews and statements, they are pieced together. If you are looking for more of a biography or audio biography this isn't the book for you. This is something I see a lot of readers being disappointed in. Most people are looking for investment strategies and financial insight. Instead, they get a book of quotes.

If you are thinking well this book has no point, you are wrong. Getting to analyze the way a successful man like him ticks is really useful. This shows more of the psychology behind his life. This is something that is rare to find. I am unsure if there is anything on the market, like this book.

“The sillier the market’s behavior, the greater the opportunity for the businesslike investor.”

Warren Buffet is a super successful business man. He has collected a grand sum thanks to his abilities to work wall street. It is an interesting look at his thought process. His quotes range from extremely thought provoking to sort of self-help statements.

“If Forbes would put a list of the 400 oldest Americans and I was on that one—that’s the list I really want to be on.”

The topics covered in this book range from life, investing, charity, family, and business. They are arranged in a way that keeps you interested. The quotes span the course of his life. Which allows you to see how his thoughts and feelings have changed.

There are many ways this book could be improved in many ways. First, if there was a commentary on the quotes, notes about topics he addressed. If many it included examples of things. These would round up the book.
