Exceptional story that pulls you in and makes you remember your own past. Definitely worth getting. The story is unique, have not seen anything quite like it.

I really love this story after I bought the omnibus manga. The story is both moving and redeeming for all the characters. The story is science fiction fantasy about a group of friends who get letters from their future selves that help them to change a tragedy they regretted from their youth. I enjoyed the art work and story pacing. It's a series that deserves more recognition for how great it truly is.

I really liked that this set has BOTH languages of audio AND subtitles. I had been worried that it might not have the English audio or subtitles, but it DOES have both Japanese and English.
I liked the very interesting story, too. It makes one think about how the choices they make today, lead them to where they will be in the future - and also how choices we've made in the past, got us to where we are now. Also, friends are important.

If you are triggered by suicide topics this is one to avoid but it is honestly my favorite tear-jerker anime. Because what if you could tell your past self 1 thing to change? What would it be? Would your past self listen to you? How would this affect your future? The journey of these friends to save 1 of their number is poignant and telling. It has heartbreak on multiple levels since there are sacrifices to be made in order to save this person. The animation is beautiful. The story is slow paced and builds up, exploring a lot of character development for all of them (which is refreshing). I loved the script adaptation and voice acting in English but I watched it in Japanese first. Either way it makes me cry, sometimes happy, sometimes sad, and it holds a special place in my heart. It is also a great adaptation of the manga.

This is a fantastic anime. Beautifully animated, a very heart driven series which at it's core asks what if you could write a letter to your past self and change your greatest regrets. What would happen and what would the repercussions be if you chose whether or not to listen to that letter. Character relationships are at the core of orange and the strength the characters find in each other, it gives you a lot to think about and will pull on your heart strings all through the series. In that way I'd put it up there with your lie in April, angel beats, beyond the boundary, and dusk maiden of amnesia. I'm not going very detailed into the plot because I don't want to spoil the progression and emotional impact of this amazing series, all I can say is you won't regret buying it.

I honestly wasn't sure what to expect when getting into Orange. I knew it focused on high school kids, so I guess I expected a slice of life, coming-of-age story with perhaps some romance. However, the story is decisively more macabre than that as while you do get to see kids be kids, the story also touches upon themes such as regret, loss, innocence and even suicide.

Orange focuses on a group of high school friends in Matsumoto, Japan as they welcome a new student, Kakeru, into their circle. However, all is not well with Kakeru and the story soon becomes one of friends doing their best to try not to lose their newfound companion. I don't want to say much more than that because to mention some of the plot devices would be a major spoiler. To understand this show, you have to watch it. However, it's far from perfect.

The biggest issue I have with this show is just how slow it sometimes feels; due to its often morose nature, the story sometimes feels as though its moving at a snail's pace. A show about high school kids, even ones dealing with potential crisis, shouldn't have to take itself so seriously all the time. More lighthearted and comedic moments would most definitely have improved the storytelling and made the show easier to digest. For me, it was the show's ending that made it all worthwhile; by then, I was thoroughly invested in seeing this journey through to its end. An anime often lives and dies on its ending, and while the journey was difficult, I felt the ending justified the struggle.

The characters were also nothing particularly amazing. I think they worked best as a group of friends because individually I didn't find any of them to be particularly fascinating. It's their interactions as a cohesive group that strengthens the narrative.

In terms of visuals, I think the show does a good job of presenting believable physicality and expressiveness of the characters. No one is exaggerated or deformed, everything looks fairly normal and, at times, a bit mundane. I feel that the show made good use of color as well; everything looks up to standard, not amazing but certainly adequate. I also felt the dub was handled fairly well; each of the characters sounded like believable teenagers despite most of them being voiced by actors in their 20s.

Ultimately, Orange is a show that you have to be determined to seeing through to the end, because it's not worthwhile otherwise. It's a story that alternates between regrets of the past and the hopefulness of a possible future and the lengths people will go to to see it happen. It's a story with a lesson to be had; sacrifice is often necessary in order to be happy.

If you like emotional series with well developed characters of depth, and a touch of sci-fi or fantasy without it being completely over the top and unbelievable - you will like this.

Orange is a beautifully composed coming of age story revolving around a group of high school friends coming together to help one another.

It is a story that left and impact on me and is going to stay with me for a long time to come.
I don’t want to give anything away, hence why I’m being so vague, but if you are currently looking for a story that is going to impact you emotionally, with characters that are relatable and multi-dimensional, give this a watch. It’s worth the time and money.

Actually the subject matter is very depressing but it's a very great anime. One of the best I've seen. Pretty affordable and short in length so give it a try. Worth watching.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is an underrated Anime that I feel deserves more attention
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 3, 2023
Not a lot of people watched this when it came out in 2016, which is a shame, as I think this has a really engaging storyline and character study that deals with delicate and dark subject matters, such as suicide. There are some twists and turns in the story that makes you want to see how it all unfolds in the end and the final episode had me on the edge of my seat. It's a shame that this show hasn't got the Blu-Ray treatment here in the U.K. yet, but as one person has already pointed out, this US import plays on BOTH region A AND region B (UK format) Blu-Ray players, so you won't have to worry about it not working.

Definitely give this show a shot. It deserves more love and attention.

9/10.

The limited edition is a beautiful addition to any anime collection. I love the pearlescent effect printed on the outer box. I especially love the art card designs, and that the blu ray case uses these images as well, to create something a bit more unique over the standard editions.

Apart from the physical item, the anime itself is gorgeous. It's a 13 episode series and I cried at least 7 times. It's an emotional ride for sure. I can't wait to re-watch it in blu ray form.
