I think it really hit home though when I got to the section on gratitude. Of course we have all heard the term "gratitude" before, but how many times have you really stopped to think about it? I've been so busy trying to keep up with everyone around me, and get the bigger, the better, the most improved, that for some reason I forgot to stop and appreciate what I did have.
I am now choosing to live with "an attitude of gratitude". I sat down and made my alphabet list, I really struggled with it. A sure sign I wasn't appreciating what I had.
One of my favourite excepts in this section said "If you are not grateful, no matter how much you have, you will not be happy because you will always yearn for something more. Living a life of gratitude grounds you. It redirects your mind to find and value the positives in your life."
I read this book in one evening and began applying the lessons within a week. I now have my own Personal Mission Statement that I keep on my fridge and read every day. I've taken more action in order to create my own motivation and have learned to view things in my life more positively.
This book made me realize that I can't go through life expecting other people to make me happy. I am the sole person responsible for my happiness. I am now starting to go out of my way to bring more enjoyment into my life by appreciating the little things and being grateful for what I currently have.
