From the Manufacturer

Orbit's Inline Valve is designed to prohibit the free flow of water from a ruptured diaphragm and reduces potential water waste and flooding damage. The manual on/off bypass lever is ideal for testing and flushing sprinkler lines. The Inline Valve works with standard residential 24-volt sprinkler systems.

I wish I could give these sprinkler valves 0 rating. I replaced all 3 of my valves recently because they were getting old, and ive had to replace two of my new ones twice because they keep cracking in the same spot. And this is literally one day after installation.

I use these to drip irrigate some land locked plantings near my house. They're just sitting in the mulch and honestly, I don't remove them during the NE winter. I just purchased a new one to replace one that wasn't turning on, I'm assuming it's weather related damage since one of my backflow preventers, filters, and a fertilizer injector also cracked from the weather. Despite that though, the price is right (I'd rather pay this amount to replace than try to drag the hoses and stuff and find a place for the mulchy mess).

These always run the program as scheduled. They are a pipe thread, but I just use some brass adapters I purchased at the hardware store to my outdoor hose. Haven't found a better one for the price, most cost around $20 or more.

Exactly what I needed to replace the one that busted during winter this past season. Works great. It arrived on time and is an orbit product which equates to good quality. It was easy to install and connect to my current wired system. I might buy a few more just to have as back up if I forget to drain the system again.

I used this to automate my motorhome water system. The old model did not work as well as the new model. The old model would have a leak bypass if pressure was on it at 40 psi constantly. However that you model works very well.

I would have given this unit 5 stars but downgraded it to 4 stars because the vendor did not say they were for plastic pipe water systems only..

These valves appear to work reliably - no complaints.

When I bought the items, I made the fateful assumption I could connect the valves with garden hoses! There was no warning in their standard packaging or instructions that they should NOT be used with garden hose based water systems. It was a frustrating installation until I found out verbally via the vendor phone support line. Below is what happened and I have included a work-around solution....

I kept having water leaks between the garden hose connections and the valves - despite using plumbing tape, etc. At the local hardware store, I learned that garden hose thread is slightly different than normal plumbing pipe thread (used by the valves) - which explained the valve connection water leaks. When I called the vendor support phone line, only then did I learn the valve was designed for use with plastic pipe only. They offered no suggestions on how to make a garden hose installation work. I would not have bought the product if they had a warning in their standard packaging or instructions or product sales information.

To solve the thread mismatch which caused the valve connection water leak problem ...
I went to a large hardware store and bought (2) pipe nipples for each water control valve (the nipples are thicker and the threads are stronger than hose connectors):
1) For the hose going from the outside faucet into the control valve, one pipe nipple with 1 male standard pipe thread (for the valve) and 1 female hose thread (for the hose)
2) For the garden hose going from the valve to the sprinklers, the second pipe nipple has 1 male standard pipe thread (for the valve) and 1 male hose thread (for the garden hose).
3) Important: Make sure you use plumbing tape for the valve / nipple connections.

I've used these for years but they used to have a nice, easy to operate flip-lever to manually turn water on and off through the valve. There wasn't any screwing around of the entire solenoid (as now occurs) in and out of its threaded hole to accomplish the manual operation like this version. I hate this "new and improved" operation and can't see why it was ever done. I never had any problem with the previous design. Now you aren't ever sure if you have it turned off too tightly such that it won't operate properly with the solenoid control voltage. A new problem to be concerned about that I've already seen happen.

I bought several of these. One was to replace a valve that failed in the OPEN position. However, the failure wasn't due a ruptured diaphragm but due the solenoid shaft getting stuck up inside the solenoid, in the up/open position. The little spring wouldn't return it to the closed position when the voltage was removed.

I have two of these. One has been in daily use for over a year now, but the second one seems to have died after a couple of days in another application. I'm using it to control the water to my barn. I don't want the water on all the time in case the poly pipe develops a leak and pumps thousands of gallons of water into the ground. This way it's only on when I need it. I have a rotary timer switch controlling the valve, so it can only be on for 15 minutes at a time. These valves aren't very expensive, so if the replacement lasts as long as my first one, I'll be happy. I had several of these at another house I owned. they were old when I bought the house, and I used them for several years controlling drip irrigation, so I think they are generally long lived. I suspect the bad one I have is a fluke. I'd buy again.

***** Update: I have upgraded my rating to 5 stars. Found out that the valve was NOT defective, I had an obstruction in my water line. It is working just fine now.

I wanted a way to control my small garden watering frame remotely using my Z-wave home automation system. They make Z-wave hose valves for $350 which is a bit pricey so I used this along with a Z-wave appliance module and 24 volt power supply to do the same thing. It works perfectly.

The valve itself feels very well made and although it is rated 24 VAC you can also use a 24 VDC supply.

Just keeps working, great quality with an easy to turn on (manual on) lever. When i fist considered this one, it looked like the lever would be easy broken, but, being it sits in the box in the ground, almost never touched, it's been working wonderful. i like things that just work and no further attention needed.

The solenoid is not identical to the one on my existing valve and doesn’t react as quickly which tends to hammer the water slightly when opening. However it does the job.
