First let me say that in general The Order:1886 is going to be the Benchmark for years to come and you should buy it! Now allow me to explain:
1. For years as consumers, we have been campaign for entertainment that gives us the best of both worlds. We want video games that respond and look like movies. And while other games tried to push that limit(Call of Duty, Uncharted, God of War) we were still left with the emotion of playing a game. Hence, The Order 1886 was created.
2. Now before you rip that first point apart, We were FORETOLD that this game was a CINEMATIC experience. Now the question I have for everyone, have you ever went to the movies and controlled the outcome? Control how the character reacts to situations? WIth The Order, you get to do that in a CINEMATIC approach. Now if you want to shoot things that move and walking into every buidling then DONT BUY THIS GAME! If you are looking for the next step in the video game era with a CINEMATIC approach then THIS IS THE GAME TO BUY.
3. To go back to the first point, This game visually is a masterpiece. I cant count the number of times me and my wife tried to catch when it was the players turn to take control. The visuals are breathtaking and they don't skip a beat once you are in control.
4. Gameplay: again I refer back the point of CINEMATIC experience. All the action that the main character performs are the same actions you are going to see in a movie. If you can name me one action movie where the shooting and blowing things up made reality sense then I will stop…………….no?.........then I will continue. Don't make the mistake of comparing this gameplay to Call of Duty or other games that bend the rules. Then if you do, you will sound like the screaming people are hating this game for this exact reason.
5. Valve: Now this is where the games has a downfall. The replay value is slim. I play this game on hard and after you do that, there is no point. I mean if I want to do the whole spill all over again then yeah but it is a beautiful game so If I wanted to show off my New TV to my friends and show the power of the PS4 then Im playing THIS GAME ONLY. Now if there are plans for DLCs then this throws this whole point out the window……….
6. Overall: I think that this game is going to be the benchmark for future gaming. In a time where we want total control over everything, its nice to give up control for a compelling story that captures the imagination. Sadly since we are in a digital age that promotes taking things for granted, this game will be taken for granted until we look back and say, “The Order 1886” was the first to do this and that…..BUY THIS GAME IF YOU ARE INTO CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE GAMES; DON'T BUY THIS GAME IF YOU ARE ADDICTED TO CALL OF DUTY AND DESTINY…..
When this game launched at $60, a lot of people felt it didn't really provide enough content to justify the cost. While the story is great, voice acting is excellent, and it is graphically incredible, the play time left something to be desired. However...The quality of the experience was really great, and that counts for a lot with me. I really got into the story, and was completely sucked into the universe. The world is a dark and ugly place in The Order: 1886, and that plays really well with the art style and atmospheric nature of the game.
Yes, there were moments when it crawled a little. They were there for pacing, and they built tension and story, as they were intended to. No, you can't sprint EVERYWHERE. The walking sections all told some story, and added to the immersion factor by being realistic. While there were a lot of cut scenes, they all felt natural and right, and they all advanced the plot in a relevant way. There wasn't a single moment when I felt like my time was being wasted. It all felt like it went toward building the plot and the universe. Most importantly, the cut scenes didn't take you out of the experience. Everything flowed together really well from start to finish.
A friend made the comparison to MGS cut scene length. This game's cut scenes weren't nearly that long, and they all made sense and contributed to a coherent plot. That's more than I could say for my admittedly limited MGS (I finished 4) experience. If I remember correctly, MGS4 had a cut scene that ran over 20 minutes. This game doesn't even come close to that number.
Now, addressing replayability: this game was fun, and the story was great. Much like the first Dead Space, I already know that now that I've finished it I'm going to replay it immediately. There's something about the universe that got me and really pulled me in. Maybe I just like dark stories. Dead Space didn't have a tremendous amount of replayability either, but I went through that game seven times total, and still go back to it when I feel the itch to shoot some limbs off something.
While it may not have been worth the cost initially, it's an absolute steal at it's current price point of $19.99. You're missing out if you pass on this game at just $20. It's gorgeous, it's engaging, and it has a good story.
For the positives, this games graphics are truly stunning and something to behold. It's really exciting to see where games have come and where they are going with a game like this. I found the story to be very interesting with the voice acting and music being stellar. I really did enjoy the first few hours of this game immensely.
The problem with this game the most important aspect of any game: the GAMEPLAY. The controls are beyond clunky. Gunplay is fun, but with average to poor controls there are points in the game where you are thrust into the middle of unfair gun battles that could have been fun challenges with good controls. With poor controls, these situations became maddeningly frustrating. And that brings me to the length, yeah, the game is a tad short but I honestly welcomed the ending because I just couldn't bare another gun battle with the game as it is. I've recently played and ENJOYED games like Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne, so I like a good challenge but poor controls and gameplay really ruin that experience.
Therefore, I can't really see myself coming back to this game that often. Go ahead and pick it up, if for nothing else to see what the PS4 is capable of, but I really felt like the developers poured so much energy into making this game look an sound amazing that they ignored the critical components that could have made this a truly special title.
