Orders of Battle (Frontlines, 7) Paperback – December 8, 2020
Purchase options and add-ons
The battle against the Lankies has been won. Earth seems safe. Peacetime military? Not on your life.
It’s been four years since Earth threw its full military prowess against the Lanky incursion. Humanity has been yanked back from the abyss of extinction. The solar system is at peace. For now.
The future for Major Andrew Grayson of the Commonwealth Defense Corps and his wife, Halley? Flying desk duty on the front. No more nightmares of monstrous things. No more traumas to the mind and body. But when an offer comes down from above, Andrew has to make a choice: continue pushing papers into retirement, or jump right back into the fight? What’s a podhead to do?
The remaining Lankies may have retreated in fear, but the threat isn’t over. They need to be wiped out for good before they strike again. That’ll take a new offensive deployment. Aboard an Avenger warship, Andrew and the special tactics team under his command embark on the ultimate search-and-destroy mission. This time, it’ll be on Lanky turf.
No big heroics. No unnecessary risks. Just a swift hit-and-run raid in the hostile Capella system. Blow the alien seed ships into oblivion and get the hell back to Earth. At least, that’s the objective. But when does anything in war go according to plan?

The circumstances in this book exposed several of my latent fears, like boldly going where aliens want to kill you - in a spaceship, a very big spaceship.
This is another exciting book in the Frontlines Series, Orders of Battle, #7. It ended before I wanted it to, but thankfully, I already have Book 8, Centers of Gravity. The audible performance is by an excellent, well-known voice, Eric G. Dove. -Mr.Bill
The reason why this book isn’t great is because it is nothing but a book one story to the next book 2. It leaves the readers hanging in a situation that they waited for the entire book to occur. Books like this frustrate me. I respect the author, Marco Kloos, as he has written many good books and I have enjoyed them all. That is why this book for me is not great as it left me hanging at a point in the story where I was ready for the real action.
I still rated the book four stars as I realized that I would read it again and wait for the next one to come out. I just wish the storyline had more meat in it regarding military battle because that is the style of sci-fi that I enjoy the most. Marco is good at writing this style of book and I hope he hits a home run with the follow-up book in this series.
The Frontlines series is a very well-crafted "space-kablooie" saga about Earth's epic battle with an alien race. Each installment makes an effort to catch the reader up which I imagine would draw in a new reader, too, without rehashing the past stories too much to get in the way of the new action. In Orders of Battle, our hero Andrew Grayson, the Forest Gump of the Lanky wars, is at the front lines once again as a new frontier is discovered on what was billed as a quick in and out mission. As unlikely as that is, he's such a well-crafted character whose point of view matures along with the books in the series. Even he is shocked by the turn of events, and as the reader, so are you. Fans of military sci-fi and great storytelling will not be able to put this one down. Whatever Scooby snacks Kloos is eating, I hope he continues chowing on them, so we can get more Frontlines soon!

Would like to see more in depth science/ history/ culture/theories of Lankies. Having an enemy that does not communicate except with violence is limiting... would like to see some major breakthrough in humans' understanding of their enemy. The book does spend a lot of time setting up a major "thing" so I am hoping book 8 goes into that more. Also if this ends with Grayson, and there is no "next generation" I hope we see a good finale in future books.
