We’ve known Eliza as a secondary character through most of the Sweetbriar Cove series, now in No Ordinary Love she gets to shine in her own spotlight, or slip helplessly deeper into trouble depending on your viewpoint. I like Eliza, she’s brash but straightforward, has strong opinions and is not afraid to voice them no matter who she offends, judgmental but can usually cut through the crap to the heart of the matter – except, it seems, when it comes to her own love life. Cal isn’t a typical wealthy, high society member – yes, he heads a major company and all of it’s holdings but he has always seen his decisions as they affect the workers, the man or woman who has to pay rent or put food on the table. He’ll stall, he’ll fight and he’ll find other ways to avoid shutting a business down. He heads a foundation that helps those in the greatest medical needs with research, funding, and help that is so desperately needed. It is the foundation that holds his heart while the company paves the way for the good he can do through the foundation. These are all parts of the man that Eliza knows nothing about for she only sees the wealth, the status, the toys, and the fact that he fired her. If you’re looking for an enemy to lover romance – then this couple is perfect for you.
I had fun with No Ordinary Love. Cal and Eliza are an intriguing couple, not really opposites attract for they both share many of the same attributes like stubbornness and not backing down from anything. In spite of their bickering, witty bantering these two fit together and maybe bring out the best in each other. I liked them together, they were realistic and believable in so many ways despite their obvious differences of opinions. It’s always fun to do some catching up on the lives of the other members of Sweetbriar Cove and this time was no exception. A few twists, some definite ongoing interest to come and a really good story make this a story that I’d definitely recommend to any Contemporary Romance reader.
I own a Kindle edition of this story.
Cal is overwhelmed with his job duties and living up to his uncle's standards. He takes his godmother up on the use of her home in SweetBriar to rest and regroup.
It takes Cal a little while to figure out why Eliza is so perturbed at him. That just adds another level of aggravation to Eliza. Cal fired her and doesn't even know who she is.
The sparks really fly between these two right from the beginning I love the bantering these two have. There was some laugh out loud moments. The only downside to Eliza personality is that she very opinionated and doesn't look at the bigger picture.
Eliza really struggled to see past Cal's social standing to see the real Cal. Cal doesn't help matters when she attends a social gala with him and she is treated no better than arm candy. I don't think he meant to treat her like this. I think he knew she was out of her element and he was trying to help but then on the other hand she can be pretty opinionated and talks first and thinks later.
He really is a very nice, upstanding guy, who is struggling himself with family duties. He's under a great deal of pressure trying to make every happy and make his parents proud.
These two have to make some tough decisions on future employment and relationships. What I really like about this book as you can visualize their individual struggles and I was very glad that they both took paths that made them happy.
