And I love Ozzy,too.
If Blizzard & Diary are 5 star albums by Amazon reviews standards, then Ordinary Man is a 2.5 star album. And that's for the actual music & not a cracked f' n cd case, people! There're some good songs but too much studio magic to make 71 year old Ozzy sound good & as a result he doesn't sound natural but overproccessed & the music's just too slick. There is some decent guitar playing & solos throughout & the musicians are all obviously great.
Listening to almost all the solo albums it's obvious that's been going on for decades but now more so than ever. His voice(as anyone who's seen him in the last decade knows)is gone. I was 10 when Flying High Again first came on the radio in late '81 & I became a fan from that moment. For me Diary of a Madman remains the best Ozzy album & Ultimate Sin was his last classic album, which is funny considering it's his worst selling & the Ozzman (or Sharon) has always hated it & had it deleted from his catalogue. If you look at any photos or videos from that time, it's pretty easy to see why Ozzy hates it! (I think it's more about the songwriting issues & Sharon's greed than anything else) Every album starting with No Rest is about half good but still I've bought every one of them including this one. I've bought Blizzard & Diary & the original Ozzy era Black Sabbath catalogue more times than I want to admit.
The last time I saw Ozzy was Ozzfest 2008 in TX & he sounded great & I'm glad I got to see him that one last time before he lost his voice. Some of these songs might grow on me more & I did wake up today with Straight to Hell in my head, so...
God bless ya Ozzy, I hope you live another 20 years!
