I was looking for more details on how to get my farm certified organic. This book is mostly about the philosophy of organic farmers. Why rotating crops and how important it is to get back to nature is important, but I wanted to know more of the government requirements to become certified.

My farming partner, with 12 years experience in California (but no formal training) in organic farming, knew most of the contents of this book before we started farming in Hawaii. After two years, some of his experience has rubbed off onto me, and we've picked up site-specific know-how that couldn't be in a generic book. This book would have been more valuable before I started farming. It's well organized and practical, with lots of photos. A good bargain. Definitely better than most.

I really enjoyed this book. It was well written and plenty of illustrations.

I found clear instructions on how to start organic farming and market your products.

There is only one chapter devoted to livestock and If the author ever writes more about livestock I will by it.

Fossel covers everything from how to start seeds to using the right farm equipment.

The book is a good read and doesn't get the reader lost. I will keep and use as a reference.

This book is great. I really enjoyed reading it. As a gardener, it spoke to me. I learned a few new things too. The author give you tips on everything farming, from growing to selling. Its not super into depth with the information, but definitely more than enough. Its a great guide to get you started on your new dream.

This work was masterfully written and very motivational. It clearly explains in practical terms what organic farming is and also provides plenty of technical information to help the reader succeed at organic farming or organic gardening. It is well organized and an enjoyable read. The book explains the differences between so-called "traditional farming" and "organic farming", and really makes things clear about differences betweening needing off-farm products and sustainable farming practices. There is also good business advise about selling produce at farmer's markets and roadside stands. This is a great piece for anyone interested in farming or gardening.
