Hibiscus Iced TeaIngredients: 2 -3 cups dried hibiscus flowers; 2 quarts cold water; 1-2 cup sugar; 1 sprig mint (optional); 1⁄2 tsp vanilla extract; 1⁄2 tsp grated fresh ginger root; 1⁄2 cup lemon juice (optional) Directions: Briefly rinse the dried flowers in cool water. In a saucepan heat two quarts (approximately two liters) of cold water. As soon as the water begins to boil, add the dried hibiscus. Immediately remove from heat and let the flowers steep for ten minutes. Pour the water from the pot into a pitcher using a strainer (lined with a cheesecloth) to separate the flowers from the water. (Be sure not to pour any of the flower sediment into the pitcher.). Stir in the sugar. Add any other flavorings (if desired). Add ice and chill completely. |
Crushed Berries Hibiscus JellyIngredients: 1/2 cup sugar; 1 cup dried hibiscus flowers; 3/4 tsp unflavored gelatin; 3 cups raspberries; 3 cups strawberries; 1.5 cups blackberries; 1/2 cup crème fraîche Directions: Make jelly: Bring 1c water and sugar to boil in small, heavy saucepan over high heat, stirring occasionally to help sugar dissolve. Remove from heat and stir in hibiscus. Cover and steep 15 mins, then strain syrup into small bowl and discard flowers. Meanwhile, pour 1/4 cup water into another small bowl. Sprinkle gelatin over and let soften 5 min. Whisk warm flower syrup into softened gelatin until dissolved. Chill at least 6 hrs and up to 3 days. Stir the jelly to loosen before using. Right before serving, crush berries in a bowl with a fork, pastry blender, or potato masher. Spoon into 8 dessert bowls. Stir jelly with a fork to loosen, then spoon over berries. Top each bowl with a spoonful of crème fraîche and a sprinkling of pepper and ground cardamom. |
Hibiscus SyrupIngredients: 2 cups water; 1/2 cup sugar; 1/3 cup dried hibiscus flowers; 1/4 cup brown sugar; 1/2 inch piece ginger root, thinly sliced; zest of one lemon Directions: Bring water, white sugar, hibiscus, brown sugar, ginger, and lemon zest to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer until sugars dissolve and flowers soften, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and steep syrup until flavors combine, about 5 minutes. Strain syrup into a container through a fine-mesh strainer, pressing solids with a spoon to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard solids. |

I've now purchased a few pounds of these flowers. At first I was a major fan of how finely they are chopped as they're easier to use with various infusers than long cut dry rigid leaves.
Then i started noticing things-
1. There are a lot of efforts by this company to bolster the review score by pumping free leaves into review channels. At first i was not suspect of this but now after purchasing more than 3lbs of the product I feel like the accusations are warranted as the product just isn't in line with other loose leaves. It doesn't matter who, just anybody but this product.
2. There were some claims that there was 'bird poop' in others bags (i was almost accepting of this, it's a natural product and droppings would be small so it could pass QA) -- this lead me to inspect small particulate in the bag, i found kernels and sticks a plenty which probably if i separated them out would be 20% of the total volume. These leaves are finely chopped and i have done no lab analysis but there are definitely granules present that are not leaves. At the very least they're letting a lot of non-leave matter to compose the weight of a bag versus only leaves by higher quality providers (this can of course be accomplished by finely cutting, something i once loved but now am not a fan of)
3. Amazon finally pulled the 1lb bags based upon customer complaints (and has now since re-instated them) so there is something going on with the review process in regards to this tea and quality is not in line with the score as per my experience and other customers complaining to the point that it was recalled at a point.
Buyer beware, go with any other brand.

I usually don't leave a review for a product. I just bought this organic hibiscus flowers for the purpose to make tea because that's so many good benefits about it. It's a good product and the smell is amazing the only thing is that it's not clean. As I go through each spon I found seeds, shell and other leaves and birds poop! So just make sure u clean before u add water on it!

I finally started taking medication for high blood pressure, that I have been refusing to take, when my bp went up to 150 to 160/ 110+ whenever getting stressed out.
Happened to be suggested to look for 100% hibiscus tea, drink it in the morning and bed time. I wasn't too excited since I knew hibiscus tastes sour, and I don't like it. I though have to try anything that would help me to get rid of RX medicine from my life.
Came home exhausted after long stressful day, I brewed the tea for the 1st time and had 2 cups. It tastes sour, indeed, but the taste is more complex than just that. It is like mixture of whole cranberry and the skin of dark black grapes. Not bad at all.
Amazing! My bp before drinking it was 128/95, after finishing two cups, it went down to 90/68. Feeling somewhat euphoric and great, the stress I felt in my body was gone. After one hour passed, it's 103/62. The sensation I feel in my body is very similar to having very small amount of alcohol, like the feeling of circulation gets better, yet no feeling of intoxication in the brain. Just feeling very relaxed, released and refreshed.
Ashwagandha used to helped lowering my bp for a couple of year, then it no.longer work for me. Wonder if these effects would lessen over time.
I am very happy that I found this tea.

When I opened it today, I immediately saw some plastic which looked like white dental floss. Also, the tea didn't look like what my batch looked like before, so I inspected a small amount of it. There is about 20% which is sticks, and there are a lot of unknown seeds. Also, I found a broken portion of what looks like animal fecal matter (the very left on my hand) and I am not wanting to look any further. I don't think this tea is safe at all to consume.
I am super disappointed in this product, and I hope I can find better tea somewhere else.

I had already ordered a bag from this company last year and it was perfect with big, fresh cut hibiscus flowers. I drank a cup almost every day and I reordered the same product this time around.

This is the real deal and makes great, full-strength tea to help maintain a healthy diet.
Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2017Size: 16 Ounce (Pack of 1)Verified Purchase
I've been drinking hibiscus tea as part of a holistic approach to lowering blood pressure. Results had been mixed in the past and it occurred to me that there might just not be enough actual hibiscus in those fancy teas from Celestial Seasonings..etc. So I went looking for 100% hibiscus leaves and found them here. After using these dried Egyptian hibiscus flowers I've found that not only do they make a powerful, tangy tea, but I am also seeing results with my blood pressure. Caveat: I am also a vegetarian and a runner so you would think BP would not be a problem. But I have always been around 145/90 every since my 20's. Now that I am in my early 60's I assume the healthy diet and exercise regimen has kept my BP stable at the high level I have always known.
I try to drink 3 cups of hibiscus tea daily, mostly iced. Making iced tea with these flowers is a breeze. Drop 4 teaspoons of these into a pitcher and cover with boiling water. Watch how quickly the tea turns a deep red. Let it steep and cool, and then pour it into a container using a small strainer to catch the leaves. To make it hot, just put a teaspoon into a cup and pour boiling water over it (you use a tea ball if you don't want to strain it. Note that the leaves are large enough so there will be no sediment after straining. In fact you can just leave them in the bottom of the pot or cup since they absorb water and settle at the bottom.
Now, you will notice that the tea has a very tangy berry taste (similar to pomegranate or cranberry), so you may want to sweeten it. And that's how you know it's working I guess.
Also note that the 1 pound bag is huge considering you are using about a teaspoon per cup of tea. So all other things being equal this is an incredible buy compared to fancy bags in the tea aisle at Whole Foods.
And now for the coup de grace. Adding REAL hibiscus tea (and separately 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed) to my daily diet while maintaining my exercise and diet - BP is now averaging 122/76 and appears to heading further downward. And it tastes good too.

This hibiscus tea has an intense, fruity flavour, which I love. The tea itself was not well sorted and contained stems and what looked like tiny rocks but I think are seed pods. I’m not sure if I would choose this brand again.

If you're buying this for a caffeine free kombucha tea, it's a great product. I switched my black tea kombucha over to it and my SCOBY loves it. No need to even do a second ferment as mild carbonation happens in the jug.
