Quinoa

Quinoa is a grain crop that is grown for its edible seeds. It’s pronounced KEEN-wah. It technically isn't a cereal grain, but a pseudo-cereal.

In other words, it is basically a seed, which is prepared and eaten similarly to a grain.Quinoa was an important crop for the Inca Empire. They referred to it as the "mother of all grains" and believed it to be sacred.

Quinoa is high in protein and one of the few plant foods that contain sufficient amounts of all nine essential amino acids.It is also high in fiber, magnesium, B vitamins, iron, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, vitamin E and various beneficial antioxidants. It has been eaten for thousands of years in South America and only recently became a trend food, even reaching super-food status.These days, you can find quinoa and quinoa products all over the world, especially in health food stores and restaurants that emphasize natural foods. It also contains a small amount of omega-3 fatty acids.


Black Bean-Quinoa Buddha Bowl Ingredients: 3/4 cup canned black beans 2/3 cup quinoa 1/4 cup hummus 1 tablespoon lime juice 1 avocado (medium diced) 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro Directions: Combine beans and quinoa in a bowl. Stir hummus and lime juice together in a small bowl; thin with water to desired consistency. Drizzle the hummus dressing over the beans and quinoa. Top with avocado and cilantro. To make ahead: Assemble Buddha bowl up to 1 day in advance, with dressing on the side. To prevent avocado from browning if making ahead, toss with a squeeze of lime juice after dicing.	Overnight Quinoa Ingredients: 1 cup cooked quinoa 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk 1/4 cup nonfat greek yogurt 1 tablespoon chia seeds 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 teaspoon honey Directions: Mix all the ingredients together in a glass jar. Stir well, cover, and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. The next morning, remove from the fridge, top off with your favorite fruit, and enjoy.	Quinoa Power Salad Ingredients: 1 tbsp virgin olive oil and lime juice 1 tbsp spinach and chia seeds 1/2 cup cooked quinoa 1 cup strawberries 1/2 avocado Directions: Mix together olive oil, lime juice, honey and spinach, quinoa, strawberries and blueberries, toss to combine. Reserve the dressing and toss again to combine. Add avocado. Drizzle the rest of the dressing on top with chia seeds.

Wonderful Quinoa- Not mushy! 1:2 ratio of quinoa to liquid.

My husband and I love quinoa. We decided to try this brand- Amazing price for organic quinoa! I cooked a double batch (4 cups water) bring to boil, add 2 cups of rinsed/drained quinoa. (PS sometimes quinoa can have a bitter coating- don't know if this did or did not, but I rinsed it thoroughly for a good 3 or 4 mins). Bring to boil (about 15 seconds), add cover turn to low for 20 minutes. Take pot off heat and let sit with cover still on for 10/15 mins or until you get around to it. I left mine sitting there for an hour or two until I could get everything else done. You can halve this but my husband devours quinoa salad, so I make bigger batches. We often eat it plain, but also often doctor it up with cucumber, red pepper, lemon juice salt and pepper. Sometimes I will throw in some lentils or chick peas for other texture. Amazing! Very al dente- not mushy at all. Really enjoyed this brand/source.

They show you something and sell you something! There’s no label, no manufacturing and expiry details.. I don’t even know what it is unless you open and see the dampened “quinoa”. I wonder how did it even reach a consumer without PQC!! Waste of money!

Initially I was not happy with this quinoa because when I purchased it I had confused it with white quinoa. After consuming most of the bag I have actually come to prefer this over white quinoa. .... This is NOT white quinoa. This is whole seed quinoa and it cooks like black and or red quinoa which take longer to cook. This quinoa has a slightly nuttier taste than white quinoa and I find it more filling than white quinoa as well. This also has a slightly less fluffy or heavier, more compact consistency after being cooked than white quinoa does. ....... So buyer beware. If you are looking for white quinoa do not buy this product or you will not get what you wanted.

Poor quality-Full of sand and grit/stones

I saw a high overall star rating and great price ($16.99 for 5 lb.), but didn't notice the many reviews complaining about high amount of sand and stones in the quinoa. Maybe we just got a bad batch in summer 2019, because many earlier reviews don't mention sand or grit. Ours has SO much, you can hear your teeth crunching on it every few bites. I honestly wonder if the company intentionally added sand to increase the weight! Other brands usually just need a quick rinse, or no rinse at all, but this NatureVibe quinoa requires 2-3 thorough washes just to make it tolerable, and since quinoa grains are almost the same size as the dirt, you end up pouring a lot of good quinoa down the sink while draining. There goes the savings! Not to mention all the time and effort you spend cleaning it. I'd rather just pay a bit more and get a safer, easier-to-use product in the first place.

This is the best tasting, easiest to cook and best result even when you add a bit too much water. I provided a picture of the latest batch I cooked and I added a bit too much water. Yet, it still has a good consistency, very forgiving. So very easy to cook that is a joy. In the other hand we purchased a different brand from Canada and it's just way too mushy. The one from Canada taste good just not good for dishes like Spanish style or Onion flavor as the one pictured. The price NatureVibe Botanicals was also the lowest I ever paid, just under 15 bucks. I would highly recommend this Brand and we have purchased quite a few brands over the years. If you are interest on the Mushy Brand purchased here at Amazon here it is: NorQuin Golden Quinoa. We use the NorQuin more as a Porridge like food for breakfast, hate wasting. Enjoy!

This is a fairly good deal considering the amount you receive for the price, and the fact that it gets delivered to your doorstep. But the quinoa is full of dust and needs extensive, thorough cleaning. After several washes the water still came out cloudy. I cooked it in a rice cooker. The top layer, after all the water had dried up, looked darker. I will try washing even more meticulously next time.
