I love my home now...

I never write reviews, good or bad. However, I am so compelled to share with everyone in the world how this book has changed my life, and the lives of my family as well. Prior to reading and following the plan in Tsh's book, we were clutter bugs. Our home was in a constant state of disarray, and my heart was in a constant state of panic over the unsightly home that I lived in. I felt trapped in a home too small and too cluttered to breathe in. I was convinced that I could never love such a small home and would only be happy someday when I could move my husband and son into a larger home.

This book changed that. I now have a kitchen that has space for everything to fit into, in fact we have several empty cupboards. My son, husband, and I each have a space just for ourselves in this home. In the evenings I am now accustomed to doing some work before I settle in to relax. Now I can say that I truly do relax, because I enjoy my surroundings again. My soul is at peace.

Strongly recommend! Especially if any of you are the kind of person that fears having people stop by or fears hosting a social gathering. You will have a home that is guest friendly that you can be proud of. Guaranteed!

Without adopting extreme views on simplicity or frugality, the writer presents a well-grounded discussion on the wisdom of living simply and gives practical suggestions for creating "a home that works."

Many of us have read about and admire the Native Americans of Colonial America whose approach to life was sacred, meaning that their lives achieved meaning through a reverence for the relationship between the spiritual and physical aspects of their existence.

In a somewhat similar way, the writer of Organized Simplicity leads the reader to create a purpose statement that becomes a unifying principle by which a person ties together all of the disconnnected parts of one's life. From that point, the reader can begin to identify "what needs to go and what needs to stay."

In addition to providing sample purpose statements, the writer provides practical information about the wise use of time, money, and physical space, promoting the satisfying results of creating a well-managed home that becomes a "haven" for the family.

The writer's style is engaging, lucid, concise, and is sometimes as serene as a Zen garden.

This book has been a great help in changing my mind-set about my clutter. I feel like I have a much better plan for keeping a beautiful home, well that would imply I had a plan before reading this, but I have confidence in what I've learned from this book. There are a few things in the book I don't relate to but still overall love this book. At times it can seem a little harsh or like a bit too much/too far but it is logical, and it's easy to use only the info that you want to. You do have to be serious about this or the book will be little help to you. I'm going to get it as a gift for a couple people.

I found the book helpful in a number of ways. I found it a little long on philosophy and short on how to actually accomplish tasks. By this I mean that I expected a simplified approach to managing multitasking. What I found was a rather complicated, repetitive system of hand-written daily planning and scheduling. I don't believe this approach is functional for many of the women who want to simplify. The concepts are great. The daily execution is too time-consuming and repetitive to be entirely useful. Perhaps someone can take these concepts and revise the daily execution into a streamlined version that makes more sense for all women.

I first checked this book out of my library and then ordered my own copy because I loved it so much! The author first presents a rationale for getting rid of clutter and for simplifying our lives in many other ways. She then gives great real-life, step-by-step instructions for dealing with each room of the house.

As a professional organizer, I chose to buy this book to have as one of my permanent reference materials. The information in the Apendices alone will save me many times the cost of the book - for example, recipes for home-made health, beauty, & cleaning supplies.

"Organized Simplicity" by Tsh Oxenreider has common sense information about organizing your schedule and essentially spring cleaning your home. The first section was a little wordy for me, going on about how most families waste time and money, though the second section held quite a few good ideas and suggestions for cleaning and cutting down on clutter. Much of the information was basic, but it will be good advice for a new homemaker.

My absolute favorite part of this book was the instructions on how to fold a flat sheet where it actually looks good! Seriously! And there are at least five pictures to illustrate it, so that is something I plan to bookmark. Up til now, mine just look like a wadded up mess no matter how hard I try, so I'm looking forward to next sheet washing day!
