I own a computer repair shop. The clip they sell in this kit does not work. I had to order a better one off ebay. That clip there was more than this whole kit. So id try a different kit but also you may still have to order a diff clip anyway. Pomona model 5250. Clips right on and easier to see.

As you can see in the pics, the blue one is the one i had to buy after. the blue one you can see what your clipping and it clips on nicely. The black one that came with the kit you cant see it and it does not clip on anything. I tried multiple boards and once i got the new one, it went right on and i could see it was on too.

I seldom leave feedback - in fact this is only my third time in fifteen years as an Amazon user. I only do so when I think the product warrants it, as in this case. The ACEIRMC SOIC8 Eprom programmer worked perfectly for me. I see from the reviews that some buyers could not get it to work and left negative feedback as a result. Speaking from my own experience, it may have been that those reviewers had the wrong BIOS binary from the manufacturer. At first I had the same problem. I could not get the file downloaded from SuperMicro to work, no matter what I tried. Luckily for me, what I DID have available was a new, pre-programmed chip I had purchased as a fail-safe. However, desoldering the old from the board and replacing it with the new was not something I looked forward to doing, though would tried as a last resort. Fortunately, I did not have to. Since the programmer is also a reader, I simply copied the file from the new chip and used it to program the original. The whole process took only a couple of minutes, and I was back in business not only with the board working again, but with the bios updated, which is what I wanted in the first place. It was a failed update that caused me to brick the mobo in the first place. Another thing I see people complaining about is difficulty getting the clip to seat on the chip properly, but I had no problem whatsoever - and it is a very small chip! So before you give up on it, make sure you have a good binary file to work with. Even though I ended up buying a chip I didn't have to install (thank goodness) the small cost of $25 from eBay was well worth it for the time saved and final results.

If you want to flash something just grab a Raspberry Pi

I bought this and a Pomona 5250 to flash a BIOS onto a laptop. This flasher kept giving errors and not working, I did some research and people suggested that I either use different flasher software or desolder the chip. I tried different software, and I have poor soldering skills, so I didn't know what to do. Until while researching Coreboot, I discovered that the Raspberry Pi can flash a BIOS, and since I have a couple I tried using one to flash the BIOS. Once I got the clip in the proper position and the chip to detect, it worked first try.

Vcc is 3.3V, but data pins are 5V!

Most of these cheap ch341 programmers have a well-documented problem, and unfortunately this one is no different. The Vcc power to the chip is 3.3V like it should be, but all of the data pins are at 5V. I verified this myself just now with my meter.

Use your favorite search engine to look up something like "ch341 vcc 3.3v fix" to find various hack jobs to correct this serious problem.

Find another product here on Amazon, or be prepared to bodge fix it yourself. Or take a gamble and risk destroying your chip.

I got this tool to re-flash a 1.8V SPI on a x86-based SBC after a mistake setting up the BIOS, and it worked quite well.
The good: The tool worked like a charm once I get the SOIC8 clip to hook on the chip. I didn't need any special software to install, just commonly used tools for chip programming (sadly Amazon doesn't allow to include the link). It was a cost-effective way to restore a BIOS of a $80+ board, and now I have a new tool under my belt.
The bad: No manual or guidance at all (you will have to search yourself), some of the pins were bent during shipping, but it was easy to fix.
The ugly: The clip was tricky to put in place, it would fall with the slightest movement, but once it is properly set up, it all worked nicely. You may want to try buying a separate clip if it makes your life easier, but not necessary.
