About the Collection

Sometimes more is more. This bigger, badder Mako diver watch is truly an apex timepiece. Now look at all those unsuspecting legs treading water above… yum. The Mako XL was created as a response to the community’s request for a larger Mako watch. As the name suggests, the Mako XL is an upsized Mako, measuring 3mm wider and a third of a millimeter thicker.

The Mako XL was created as a response to the community’s request for a larger Mako watch. As the name suggests, the Mako XL is an upsized Mako, measuring 3mm wider (44. 5mm) and a third of a millimeter thicker (13. 3mm). Rather than recreate the popular Mako design on a larger canvas, the design was tweaked, with bar hour markers and a 60-unit scale bezel that was devoid of a lume pip. The spear-shaped hour and minute hands and lollipop seconds hand are also hallmarks of the design. Above all, it maintains the signature diver features, including a unidirectional diver-style bezel, 200m of water resistance, strong lume, and a screwed case back, to name a few.

The watch is totally awesome, great bracelet, nice movement and hand sweep, a really nice piece. However, on day one the bezel popped off under very normal circumstances, and so did the spring. So I reach out to Orient Customer Service, explained the issue, send my proof of purchase, and images and I merely wanted a replacement spring. NOPE. Orient wouldn't help at all, they wanted $100 plus shipping to repair a watch less than a week on my wrist. They claimed the company wasn't an "Authorized Reseller." So, I am returning the watch, NEVER to buy Orient again. Watch great, Orient big thumbs down. BE AWARE.

I know that the big selling point of this watch is supposed to be the full lume dial, and the full lume dial is indeed cool—and bright—but the reasons to buy this watch go so beyond that.

First and foremost, this watch is just one of the best looking timepieces in this price range you'll ever see. It's handsome as all get out. It's a beautiful piece for the price, and will go well with any attire. It's massively elegant and massively sporty at the same time, large enough to match today's trends but not "ridiculous large" like so many other watches. It's big but it sits well and looks right. The hour markers, handset, and bezel just mesh well together, and the beveled caseback makes the watch look a lot thinner than it is.

Beyond that, it's the real deal as a casual diver. I've had this on extended swim/snorkel sessions in all kinds of conditions and naturally it performed every bit as expected, demonstrating the usual Orient quality.

And that's the final thing—with Orient's family of workhorse in-house movements that are legendary for going years and years and years with accuracy and nary a hiccup, this thing can be expected to run and run and run without service for years. And when it finally does need service, the fact that there are millions of Orient movements out there and a ready supply of parts, combined with just how lovely and rugged this watch is, mean that you won't hesitate to service it.

There aren't many pieces in this price range that are worth "passing down" to the kid(s), but this might just be one of them. I have a bunch of watches, but this is the kids' favorite, and I can see why. It looks great, is instantly recognizable, is solid, is simple, and tends to come with us whenever we're doing "water activities" stuff, where it succeeds with grace and aplomb.

Beautiful. Quality. AFFORDABLE. I am very impressed with this watch and the shipping time I received. The packaging showed they really care about making sure it arrived safe. The watch itself is a piece to look at. Polished sides on the case and polished sides on the links of the bracelet is a striking and interesting touch of detail. The hands line up perfectly with the markers, bezel, and chapter ring. The bezel is ridgid enough to not move unless you want it too, but not too ridgid. It has great clicking feedback when you rotate the bezel. The clasp and bracelet are very well done. With little to no rattling when you wear the watch. The threaded crown is among the best I have experienced in this price range, very smooth and consistent with a nice lock up. For the peice you are paying you are getting a very functional and affordable automatic watch with a reknown bulletproof movement that will last years.

2nd Mako XL in Two Weeks Bought the Orange last Week.

Got the Orient Mako XL in Blue today, two days ahead of schedule. Opened it up and I have to say the pictures don't do it justice, great look but at first I thought I got the wrong watch because it looked Black on Black so I took it outside in the natural light and the face is an iridescent blue outside but black indoors and the bezel is a very, very dark blue, almost black. Doesn't look anything like the pictures so if you're expecting a bright blue face forget it. Don't get me wrong I think it looks cool because of the different looks it gives you so I'm keeping it. First you have to understand, I'm one of those guys, a watch snob. I own 2 Rolex's, a stainless and gold blue submariner, and a Yacht-Master stainless and gold, and Omega seamaster automatic, 4 Breitlings, a superocean 44, a superocean 42 chronograph, a superocean 44 blue special and a chronomat crosswinds stainless and gold with a diamond bezel also an Ebel stainless and gold discovery just to name a few. So when I got this watch I was surprised I immediately adjusted the links from my wrist set the time and date shake it a few times, it was already running out of the box from being transported, then put it on my wrist and it felt great look great and the workmanship seems to be top notch except for maybe the clasp it could be a little heavier but hey for $112 I'm not complaining. I'll keep you posted but $112 through Amazon it's a hard deal to be for an automatic dive watch 200 m water resistant I'll buy another and they keep incredible time.

Sent back the blue and ordered the green and really love it. Had it now 2 weeks and keeps incredible time. The orange and green are the coolest of the bunch and both keep as good a time as my Omega and Breitlings

I bought this taking a chance. Not a brand I had much dealings with.
Did a bit of research and took the chance.
I have not regretted it. Nice solid watch. Had it on for three days now. Not missed a beat. Gets a fair few comments too.
Exceptional build quality. Better than some of my "Premium" watches in some cases.
Nice weight and gorgeous colours. The orange bezel really "pops" against the black dial.
Lume is not the best. But still readable after six hours of darkness so cant complain.
Yes all in all a nice addition to anyone collection. Or a solid watch for everyday use.
So much so that I have my eye on another. If you like Seikos but don't have the budget? Then you could do a lot worse than part with your money for one of these.

UPDATE.
Had this a few months now.
Not missed a beat. I've changed the strap out. No reason just wanted a change.
It gets a lot of comments. Fastly becoming one of my favourites.
Orient are a great watch.

Firstly it's an Orient, so it has the pedigree of Japanese made quality. Secondly it looks and feel great on the wrist and if looked after properly, will last a lifetime. Sadly? it has the 'old'? non-hacking/non-winding movement but the impressive full lume face and XL body makes up for it in spades. Simply put, it's a beautiful watch to have and to hold... full stop!

Early delivery from America, nice watch and the luminous dial is a nice feature. Slightly bigger than my Seiko Samurai lug to lug but wears well on my 7¼" wrist. The bracelet is slightly wider and may not suit everybodies taste. Nice heavy watch and has been losing around 3 secs per day but comparing the price against my Hamilton Pan Europ, Omega Speedmaster and Seikos you cannot complain at that. If you like a big, heavy watch you'll like this.

It has Orients own in house automatic movement and It arrived within a week from the States to the UK, buy this watch its a great buy. Ps the price keeps changing on Amazon, I paid £120 and my friend paid £112 so keep an eye on things.
