So, I wonder to myself what took me so long to finally pick up a battery organizer. The lack of a centralized place to store all of the various batteries we had scattered about annoyed me one too many times... so I tried this one out.

The built-in tester on this unit is very nice. We were able to immediately eliminate several expired batteries from our collection. Handy! Plus, it gives you some indication of whether a battery is fully-charged or slightly-used.

This sucker also holds a lot of batteries. Unless you buy yours in bulk, you'll be hard-pressed to fill the rack up.

The only con I see is that if you need to change the batteries that run the tester (yes, the battery tester requires small watch batteries to function properly -- they're included, though), the hatch is on the back of the unit. If you mount the unit to the wall, you'll need to take it down to change the batteries. Not a big deal, except the way the mounting holes are designed, you'll need to remove the screws first to take the unit off the wall.

The unit can also fit inside a pull drawer. Nice if you don't have the wall space.

Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase.

I have been using this rack for about a month now and can say that it does what it says it will do. Had I been designing it, I would have made the following changes:

1. When you hang the unit, the bottom battery can fall out if the wall is banged hard enough, especially if the rack is not full. I would have made a small lip to prevent this possibility.

2. I have noticed that it is possible to have a battery test well (green light on the tester) but not perform very well when used in certain devices. I would like to see a tester that was more accurate, like with a real voltage digital readout so that you would know for sure.

3. I would like to see the partitions be moveable so that if I wanted to store more of one type of battery and fewer of another type, I would be able to do so.

Other than these points, I think it works pretty darn well.

Update: 10/9/06: I have found another couple of negatives for the rack, and have now downgraded it to three stars. Unfortunately, some batteries that test out fine on the tester actually are not much good. I thought originally that maybe we were only talking about heavy usage, but now I see that even more moderate uses are precluded at times even when the battery tests full green. Also, I have the rack mounted to the inside of a double door, but the side that it's mounted to is never used. Even so, just the minor vibration caused by closing the opposing door sometimes knocks a battery out. The slope should be more drastic within the rack so that this could not happen.

It does hold the batteries as advertised. And, having a built in battery tester is handy. Until it stops working!! For starters, I had to remove it from the wall to change the batteries. Much to my suprise, it takes three LR44 button (watch) batteries!!! Why not three AAA's?? They would have lasted at least ten years or more!! But at least when they died I could have taken three from the rack!

I was looking for both a battery organizer and battery meter for the variety of batteries we had stored in a box along with our flashlights. After receiving shipment of this product, I hung it up on a closet wall and began moving batteries from our flashlight box into the organizer. I had no problem doing this except I noticed one brand of AAA batteries had a tight fit, while other brand fit in well.

Since we have been moving away from appliances requiring D batteries to ones requiring AA & AAA batteries, I quickly ran out of space for my smaller batteries with this particular organizer, and use it for my rechargeable batteries only.

After the organizer was hung, I removed each battery and tested each in the battery tester at the top of the box. Some of the batteries came out smoothly, some of the tight fitting AAA's needed to be pried out, and one of the D cells rolled out all by itself. After adjusting the angle of the box with a wedge, I solved the rolling out problem. I continued to go through all of my batteries including the Alkaline batteries that I didn't have room for in the box. I found the battery tester easy to use, and I liked the cover which kept it from collecting dust.

After this process was was completed, I found 3 alkaline batteries that had seen better days so I recycled these out of our collection and felt like I finally had a good handle on what the state of our battery collection was. I quickly lost this feeling of confidence when I put several of the rechargeable batteries, which had shown fully charged on the meter, into a recharger just to double check their state. The recharger took two hours to top off the batteries which had read fully charged on the meter.

Great product. Keeps batteries handy and the oldest get used before the newer batteries on top.

Great item although it claims to have an insert to make the "C" size (storage area) into usable "AA" size I bought two neither of them had it. Other than that it is useful and has a quick tester; although you can get a marginal reading (green light)and find out that the batteries won't actually run a power hungry device
