Good part and a note about the 1" height adjustment

Good part and a note about the 1" height adjustment
I don't have a whole lot to add to the other reviews, other than I wanted to add a note to prospective buyers about the height adjustment capabilities of the adapter, if you want to have your handlebars raised up a bit. You can see what I'm talking about in the photo I uploaded with this review.According to the product description, there is a 1" (25 mm) height adjustment. This means that you can slide the adapter up about one inch up from the top of the head tube, and still have enough of the adapter inserted into the head tube to have adequate "grip" to be tightened securely. If you don't want the added height and want your handlebars low, then just push the adapter all the way down. There isn't a "do not raise above this line" type of marker on the adapter like you often see on seat posts, but there a series of some short vertical hashes like this "||||||||" and I interpreted those marks to be the max-height marker. In practice, I could only get about 0.75" of added height, because my stem's clamp is a bit taller than many stems. You can see this in my photo. So, depending on the height of your stem clamp, you will be able to get about 0.75" - 1.0" of height adjustment. If you need any more height, then you'll need to get a stem with a higher angle. Eventually I'll get some black stem headset spacers (1 1/8") to slide over the silver part of the adapter below the stem clamp so it looks better. This is why I'm docking my review down to 4 stars. It would have been nice to have another inch of height for more flexibility. Other than that, the product is simple to use and easy to install and looks to be machined well.I installed mine on a 1995 Trek 930 mountain bike. I got the 1" to 1 & 1/8" size (25.4/28.6). See the "top review" from PRS4 for more explanation of the various sizes to ensure you get the correct one for your particular bike.

I bought a Huffy Parkside a couple months ago, and although I loved the retro style, I also rather hated the handlebars which kept coming loose. Upgrade options seemed scarce, until I learned about quill adapters.

I have no experience with any others, but this one is very solid. I wasn't sure if I needed a 22.2 or 25.4, so I ordered the version with the shim, and was pleasantly surprised to learn the shim adapter fits very solid, and I had significantly less problems installing the Origin8 adapter (with the shim) than I did the original handlebar setup!

So, if you're thinking of doing something similar, then make a note of this Origin8 stem adapter, because if you decide to go that route, it will serve you well in your project, as it did mine.
