These 5 discs will NOT load on your pc,just what the Hades was WB thinking when they put these out?, dust off that Walkman CD player or take you lap top to your in-house music system because that is the only way you are going to listen to them and be at your computer, the music?, it's great!, very good transfer to disc, clean and crisp, if my old LP's were not so dinged up, I would never have bought this set, don't you do it either!

I first came to know of Passport when I was stationed at Hahn AB, Germany in 1981. I lived in a little town called Sohren, not too far from a small grocery store where the old lady who owned it also sold albums. She had all their early albums including the ones in this set which include…

Doldinger - 1971
Hand Made - 1973
Looking Thru - 1973
Cross-Collateral - 1975
Infinity Machine - 1976

I’d never heard of Passport till she told me about them. She seemed to know a great deal about the band (I got the impression she knew some of the members) and asked me to give them a listen. I bought two albums, and the next day went and got the rest. In all I’ve got 17 Passport albums (12 vinyl; 5 CD’s).

Their sound is jazz fusion much in the vein of Weather Report, although a bit more ethereal, especially in these early releases (basically their first 5 albums, though not included is their second release – Second Passport). That said, if you’re a Weather Report fan, you’ll probably come to like Passport as well.

The center piece of their sound (and band) is Klaus Doldinger, who is equally adept on both sax and keyboards (moog, piano), though he is more known for his sax play.

One of my favorite albums (besides Iguacu, not included) is Looking Thru (included), with the title track Looking Through, where Klaus puts on a moog clinic ala Herbie Hancock in a Miles Davis fusion sort of way. That said, if you do like this set, I urge you to get Iguacu, which is a far better album than some of the others included here. Check out Birds of Paradise, and Klaus’s sax play.

Other standouts in this box set is Schirokko, off the album Doldinger, which reminds one of a 60’s stone joint.

If you like early Passport then this is the set for you, Klaus Doldinger is just blistering on sax & synthesizer along with Curt Cress, Wolfgang Schmid & Kristian Schultze with guest Frank Roberts. This 5 cd set includes Passport 1, Handmade, Looking Thru , Cross Collateral & Inifinity Machine all great German Fusionistic Jazz. This set deserves a 5 star rating & is a must for the Passport fan. Songs on these cds include Continuation,Tarantula,Abracadabra,Will O The Wisp & Morning Sun to name a few.

"blistering" is korrrekt.
Great intro for the youth.
The German Weather Report/Soft Machine / Nucleus.
Super for old timers that grabbed these fun brilliant intelligent jewels on vinyl as they came out. But now the sound is clean and crisp. Have a feeling that the vinyl used was not the state of the art.
My historical computer plays them fine.
