As you can see in the attached image, i have a full bottle of 16oz water and a PS4 controller on the shelf and it has no issues with holding those items. Also, when i push down the shelf a little, it does not fall off the edge of the table. This is really useful for me since, i currently do not have a dedicated keyboard shelf under my computer desk, so i don't have that much room on my table for other items. This shelf solves that issue by hanging on the edge of my desk, This shelf also features a slot for wired mouses, so you can have your wire tucked in the slot and not all over the place. Another area i sometimes have it at is on my telephone stand. This is where i am able to completely have the clamp against the edge.
In the images provided, you can see that i have x2 7.5lbs= 15lbs of weight on the shelf and it still holds on the edge like a beast. In real use i don't think most people will have heavy objects on this shelf, but it is nice to know that you are able to do that if you happen to need to. Plus, it just shows how tough this shelf is. This shelf also comes in handy as it rotates in a full circle. You can easily hide this shelf underneath a table when not in use, so you won't have people bumping into it. Then when you wanna get back in using this shelf, you can simply rotate it back out to your preference. This product has made things a lot easy for me by giving me more space for other items to lay on. I recommend this to anyone out there struggling to find a spot to place an item, so you won't lose it.
So, first the good. The height of the Desk Potato once it is installed is perfect. It is naturally at the same height as my keyboard making, making using my mouse super easy. As well, it was super easy to install. While it may seem like a wash, I also love that I can put a harder mouse pad on top of the Potato. This makes it a bit more stable, in my opinion, and gives me more wrist support.
Now, the biggest drawback is also the most disappointing. It won't stay on your desk. It very easily falls off while you are using the unit, and will fall immediately once it is bumped. With two large dogs in the house, this happens constantly. To protect my desk ,eventually put cloth between my desk and the stand since we were worried of it eventually damaging my desk. If it had a tighter fit to the desk, this likely wouldn't be an issue but it doesn't seem to keep its settings over time.
Since it is still the best option we have seen to date, I don't see us getting rid of the Desk Potato anytime soon.
The main issues I had with this product were related to the clamping mechanism. It was near impossible to get this tight enough on the desk where the clamp didn't scoot around on occasion, and the nut on the bottom of the clamp has a plastic piece on it which seems like it was molded for a different device. It simply doesn't tighten down or latch on, so if you leave this piece on, it will fall off and thud to the floor several times a day. Tried everything I could think of with it and also looked up the documentation online just to make sure I wasn't missing something, but found no way to keep this piece on.
All that said, the desk potato did pretty much do the job I bought it for. Just not with flying colors.
