About the Author

This influential guide by "the father of modern beekeeping," originally published in 1853, is the first descriptive piece of modern bee management. Its innovations allowed people to engage in actual beekeeping, rather than simply handling bee domiciles and extracting the honey. The techniques it explains and are still employed 150 years later--including the author's patented invention, a movable frame hive. In a reader-friendly, enthusiastic style, Langstroth addresses every aspect of beekeeping: bee physiology; diseases and enemies of bees; the life-cycles of the queen, drone, and worker; bee-hives; the handling of bees; and many other topics.

I did not know how important this book was in beekeeping lore. But I scored big picking it as a gift for my beekeeping friend. He flipped and was very happy with it - said 5 for 5!

so if you're a beekeeper, or a friend of one, here's a new clean copy of a classic!

This guy was way beyond his time...although his findings are now common knowledge among American apiarists, it gives a look into the evolution of modern American beekeeping techniques and also contains some tidbits that I never knew!

This man is fascinating and I love the "Old English" feel of the written prose.

Bought this book for a friend's father - who is an amateur beekeeper. He was so happy, he had heard of this book, but did not know it still was in print. So if you want to score big with a beekeeper, (and now I get free honey), this is the classic beekeeping manual. (pays to do your research!)

Enjoy your toast (and honey!)

It was written in 1850 or so. Based on that, it's an incredible document. Because of that, teh style is not quite was I was expecting. Still, if you could have 2 books on the topic, this might be one of them.

Written by someone with a lifetimes worth of knowledge on Bees. And as bees are still the same, you can bet this book is worth more then books that are written by someone who has only researched the subject.

Langstroth was and is the world's most authoritative expert on Bees - this is the ONE BOOK that needs to be on your shelf. Think twice about the other bee books, but not this one.

11 out of 10!

This is the one book that EVERY bee keeper or bee hobbyist MUST have...bees have not changed since Langstroth wrote this book, and every book I did read on bees referenced this book - so like the bees I smelted the roses and got it! This is not a problem, question or issue you can not solve if you consult Langstroth.

10 out of 10!!
