We had purchased this book prior for a friend for Christmas. My sons have turned into avid hunters. I thought they would enjoy receiving this for Christmas. It is a humorous book about (of course) Road Kill. This would also be a great book for someone who has just started driving and, like my children, had deer accidents. It gives exact details how to hit them with your vehicle to save you the trouble of loading them. Like it says "No wonder Game Wardens Children are the best fed in the school." Hope you enjoy as much as the people we have given to.

A very cute parody of over-serious recipe books. The
illustrations are the tip-off.

As an avid hunter and cook I found this book particularly amusing from start to finish. Buck does a great job writing and illustrating and I keep it out when entertaining, with dogeared pages, so that my guests can see the recipes I am using. Makes for some lively conversations.

Good sense of humor in labeling the meals and describing the means for procuring the product. I have to say I have not tried any of the recipes.
Don't intend to either ~ although they sound quite plausible.

I have a friend who is a great cook, and she never shares her recipes.....or at least, when she shares, there is some critical ingredient she fails to include, and the results are never the same. This is my present for her, to stand beside her Julia Childs' cookbooks.

Years ago now, I worked in the offshore oil field, and my deckhand previously worked with a captain who foraged road kill for his crew. He picked it up from the side of LA Hwy 1 between Leesville and Port of Fourchon on his way to the boat. No joke. When the crew complained to the office, which provided grocery allowance enough to not rely on road kill, a quick trip to the boat verified its presence in the freezer. So under those circumstances, the crew needed a cookbook such as this one.

I cast no aspersions upon road kill per se, but it isn't for those with weak stomachs. Including myself. Don't take this seriously as a cookbook, but if you have a highly accomplished chef to buy for, this could be an exciting diversion for them. I doubt they ever heard of this cookbook. Published by Ten Speed Press....on the road again. :)

Useful if you go in for that sort of thing and certainly humorous. I've eaten a number of FRESH road kill deer (great) and, one woodchuck (on a dare-terrible) but I haven't got around to the other critters described. Since I'm now on social security, "bumper bunny" is looking better all the time.

We bought this as a joke gift for a friend that has a fascination with roadkill. The friend laughed when the gift was opened so this did the trick for our purpose.
The only scary thing now is going over to that friend's house for dinner. I hope that I'm not being served any of the recipes from this book.

This book is hillarious! A must for anyone who drives the highways and byways in a rural or city area. I thought at first that my husband or father-in-law had written this book. Then I realized that I had not eaten any of these foods, since according to them I am a kill joy and won't let them scrape dead carcasses from the road and bring home. I guess they'll just have to figure out how to use these recipes for freshly killed and field dressed hunted creatures.

Now if I could just get a how to freeze dry your husband's hunted meals................
