"Kim Krizan's book is wickedly funny, razor sharp and immensely entertaining. She gets to the blackened heart of our collective fascination with bad girls and provides extraordinary insight into their lives and psyches both real and fictional. A fascinating, hilarious and surprisingly educational read." --Diane Drake, screenwriter of Only You and What Women Want

Funny, beautifully illustrated, but not without serious insight, this page-turner will walk you through the history of the Femme Fatale, from ancient archetypes, through historical figures to screen sirens and the women who portrayed them and even the punk rocker Siouxsie from Siouxsie and the Banshees. The range of the characters both fictional and real is eye-opening and perhaps the most delightful aspect of the book.
I had always wished for a history of female archetypes and this book gives a terrific introduction into the psyche of "the dangerous woman" and the fascination and fear that she has generated since the beginning of time. But who is she really? You'll be surprised how ultimately simple the answer is after reading this book.
Let it lead you to temptation for nothing is as sexy and glamorous as living your life on your own terms and not giving a damn.
My one regret after reading the book is that it didn't exist during my younger days, when I was so easily and completely ensnared by exactly the types of women highlighted in her work. Just think of all the manic heartbreak it could have saved! My wallet would be fatter, my car would not be at the bottom of a lake, and I would have that kidney back, though I understand it sold pretty well on the black market...which I guess is the silver lining.
On the other hand, if I had learned to avoid all those women, I wouldn't have nearly as much "character" as I had now. Still, kinda liked that kidney.
An empowering and original book from one of planet earth's most exciting writers, Original Sins is a must-read.
Chock full of info on these tantalizing troublemakers - some historical, others fictional - "Original Sins" explores the femme fatale in all her bad-girl glory. Part delightfully tongue-in-cheek historical analysis, part film history, part cultural commentary, Krizan manages to pull all this off while keeping the mood light and fun, and without taking herself or her subject matter too seriously. No small feat.
This book is at its heart a primer, a how-to, and mousy chicks everywhere may lay claim to their inner bad-ass thanks to this deliciously fun read.
Kudos to Kim Krizan. Now that this book is available to the general populace through Amazon, maybe "Original Sins" will reach the wider audience it deserves.
Anyone who appreciates a good time, a naughty woman, or a kaleidescopic romp through history and pop-culture - BUY THIS BOOK! You won't be disappointed.
