About the author

Tanya Lisle is a novelist from the Metro Vancouver, British Columbia who has series littered across genres from supernatural horror to young adult fantasy. She began writing in elementary school, when she started turning homework assignments into short stories and continued this trend well into university. While attending Simon Fraser University, she developed an appreciation for public domain crossovers and cross-platform narratives. She has a shelf full of notebooks with more story ideas than pens lost to the depths of her bag. Now she writes incessantly in hopes of finishing all of them.
Thankfully, her cat, Remy, has figured out how to shut off Tanya’s computer when she needs to take a break.

I loved this! If I could leave this review there, I would, but I feel compelled to go into greater detail about it.
This is a quick read, but it manages to feel longer than it actually is. No, not in a bad/dragging kind of way, but in a good way. Yes, I know that sounds somewhat odd – it sounds a little odd to me as well, but it’s difficult to describe. I guess the best way to put it would be to say the author finds a way to create such a delightfully deep world filled with such intricate characters that you can fall into it very easily, and find yourself seeing things that may not necessarily be on the page.
As suggested above, the characters are delightful! I loved them all and honestly couldn’t choose a favourite even if I tried. A lot of my love for them comes through their interactions between each other, rather than their own single personalities, so that may be a contributing factor to my indecisiveness.
The plot itself is pretty unique too, at least to me. That’s what drew me in most to the book in general. Magdalene is going to do what? How is she going to pull that off? It’s just something I had to know!
Overall, this was a delightful read and I very much hope to see more from these characters – I would most definitely pounce on a sequel in a heartbeat!
