I found this book to be very easy to read and helpful in understanding both homosexuality and human nature. I was raised in a religious setting where it was believed that homosexuality was an evil spirit that was to be cast out through united prayer.
Being raised in a foreign country that accepted homosexuality as natural as hetrosexuality confused me, and I found this book helpful in understand the way sexuality was viewed in Japan.
The argument in this book was englightening as it was very conviencing as to how human nature changed over the course of history while the biological urges did not.
This book, in my opinion, is helpful to those who do not fully understand homosexuality, and encourages a new outlook concerning human nature in general.

This book explores subjects that have been left untouched for centuries, The truth about sexuality from the earliest man to the 21st century. Read this and be informed about what really went down in the early part of the Current Era to change things for anyone with homosexual responsiveness. It will make you a little angry most likely

This book discusses the regular same pair bonding in the animal kingdom, medical science and the brain differences between hetro and homosexual people, cultural and social development and the important roles and influences of homosexual through human history. Until the Euro peon and Spanish introduction of Judeo-Christian religions homosexuals were not outcasts, rather, they were very important members of their communities. They were looked up to and respected. The book is not a short read, but, it is an important read. I highly recommend it.

One of the most extraordinary, fascinating and comprehensive history/ gay history books I have ever read. Now and then a reader will tell himself that he intends to reread a book. In this example, I actually have read and reread it several times. I find myself praising the author again and again. I am so grateful that Neill is such a magnificent historian and can convey history so effectively. Bravo to him!

This book should be required reading for all students as a means of combatting some misinformation and societal indoctrination. The book is well-researched and offers great insight to human sexuality through a historical lens.

This book needs to be taught as part of a junior high or HS history curriculum. The author gives a clear insight into human society before Christianity began it's 1400 year brainwashing/murdering spree of cultures throughout Europe, Asia, Africa and the Pacific islands. The author also gives extensive examples of same-sex relations in the animal kingdom,

This book thoroughly, thoroughly backs up any and all statements it makes. It is very apparent that the author spent ten years researching and yet it also is a compelling read. Very straight forward but with tons of interesting information not commonly published regarding Japan, Native Americans, as well as a history and explanation of the neurosis (negative connotations) associated with same-sex relations.
