In this power-packed novel from the team of Moon and Chaney archaeologist Dr. Hank Murphy is working on a piece of alien hardware. That device opens a doorway to another world, sucking him through the event horizon a changed man, both physically and to some extent, mentally as well.
What he finds on this new world, how he copes with his new abilities, and the mental and moral choices he faces as he works to return home is the basis for an engaging and powerful story. You will want to sit down, get comfortable plan some time to engage in serious ethical, moral and expedient choices that Murphy is required to make as events and time constraints shape his choices.

Very disappointing - Keep Looking

I never finished the book. It started out well, up to the point he was transferred to another planet, time and space.
The MC is totally un-likeable. He is not interesting, totally ineffectual and just downright boring. For a character that was supposed to obtain super powers and abilities such as super speed and strength, what happened to them. They never appeared. Maybe I missed it by not reading to the very end. There was supposed to be tech and magic, but again not only were they absent but also undefined.
I would recommend a pass on this one. The author has better ones out there than this poor excuse for a "book."

Too many novels nowadays give you everything upfront. It is like they are trying to hook you into reading it forcefully without the character development and mystery that a well crafted author(s) is able to deliver. The buildup is slow and just the right place for a reader who enjoys feeling the wave surging larger as you turn the page. The ending has the right amount of "winning", darkness, and hope that I have come to expect from one of my favorite authors.

This novel has a great story, pace, wide variety of characters, and a fresh take on the fantasy slash military slash political slash space opera genre. If that is really a genre. I guess it is now at the least.

I like the author’s other novels. This one has been a challenge. I’m finding it difficult to connect with the protagonist and his alien sidekick. The hero seems competent in the opening chapter, but then becomes an idiot soon after. Hard to visualize the story as I read the book. I will pass on this series.
