From the Inside Flap
Secrets of the past haunt those with royal blood. Now, with Arra at the brink of war, three young heroes must unravel those secrets to save their present.
From the Back Cover
The uneasy peace between Arra and Destauria is over. Destauria has made the first move.
Jaimin, the prince of Arra, is aided by Elaina as he flees the assault. Although she appears to be a simple farm girl, Elaina is beautiful and mysterious, and she occupies his every thought.
Elaina also can't stop thinking about Jaimin, the handsome young man who fled too soon. Despite not knowing his identity, she finds herself drawn to him.
Nastasha, Jaimin's best friend, is hopelessly in love with the young prince. But he is smitten with the farm girl, and Nastasha cares too much about him to interfere.
When the threat of invasion becomes imminent, however, these three heroes learn there are far more serious things to worry about than the affairs of the heart.
Can the trio work together to unravel the mysteries of the past in time to save their present kingdom?

I was going to give this four stars because I liked it (I didn't love it, I liked it), but the fifth star is because it didn't insult my intelligence as an adult, and if there was a teenager in my life, I would recommend it whole-heartedly. The author's style is graceful enough that the mystery of who the characters are is revealed throughout the book. You're on a journey with them, instead of being bludgeoned with exposition and history, and it worked really well for me. Yes, there are some predictable things in the book, particularly if you've read a ton of books like I have, but what matters is that it's still enjoyable.
As a side note, Natasha is awesome. If I was a teenager--oh, who am I kidding, even as an adult I completely associate with Natasha. She's my favorite. I also like Elaina, but mostly because she knows how to make artisan cheeses. Also, Nightmare and Tyrant are great names for horses.
The story is good. Characters are also good. The plot is simple but enjoyable. The main characters are Prince Jaimin and his lover Elaina. Even though he is prince, he is also teenager. So, there's the balance between serious plot with teenager main characters. I thought it would be childish story but no, it was quite engaging. Of course, it could have been better. Maybe with more complex and twisted plot. But I can understand because this book was supposed to be series. So, things may be revealed later. I recommend this book for light and enjoyable reading.
