About the Author

Bill Allen is the best-selling author of How to Slay a Dragon, Book One of The Journals of Myrth, a humorous fantasy adventure series for kids age nine to ninety. A lifetime member of the Space Coast Writers’ Guild, Bill lives, not surprisingly, on the Space Coast of Florida with his wife, Nancy, his two cats, Kiki and Sundance, and of course, Fur Bear.

Orson Buggy's Lessons for Losers is a must read for anyone feeling a little out of place in the world. It's designed for children, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and think many adults will too.

What a great book. Bill Allen has a wonderful sense of humor and is able to instill his novels with just the right dose of it. I will be surprised if you don't find yourself chuckling throughout the novel.

Orson is a misfit in his new school and he doesn't help himself much by devising a plan that's doomed to failure from the start. Allen is the master of throwing a dilemma in front of his main character and having that snowball until the reader can see no way out. Anyone who has ever been teased will enjoy seeing Orson work his way out of his problems.

I highly recommend this book for the writing, for the topic and the excellent examples it provides those who may think they are losers too, and for the humor. Orson Buggy has such a fresh look at his predicament, I think you will enjoy watching him face the challenges offered up in this book.

Poor Orson Buggy. As if his name isn't bad enough, this poor kid goes through middle grade with all the flare of a sparkler. If you like contemporary middle grade and love to laugh, check out all of Allen's books in the Orson Buggy's Lessons for Losers series.

"Orson Buggy's Lessons for Losers" is a charming young adult novel that makes you nod sympathetically, laugh hysterically, and cringe uncomfortably -- often at the same time. Orson is every boy's "loser," so obsessed with being cool that he inadvertently heats up his entire school with his misguided antics. One disaster leads to another, and Orson ends up being lucky to get out of it alive, much less with all his senses intact. Yet get out of it he does ... and with flying colors. But I'll leave it at that, to avoid any spoilers.

"Losers" is part of the title, but not abandoned in the dust of Orson's many precarious adventures is the "Lessons" he learns. This book is full of them, some on the surface, some cleverly tucked between the lines. But for your average middle-schooler trapped in a time of life that is so rife with angst, "Orson Buggy's Lessons for Losers" has so much to teach and so much to admire.
