Of all the options, we were most skeptical of the OrthoMax working, but it worked the best, fastest and cheapest and didn't do damage to our lawn; whereas the professional service killed the nutsedge AND the entire lawn...months later we still have an enormous brown patch where the professional treated...nothing but nothing is growing there (no weeds - yey! no grass, not one blade survived - boo!). They treated the back yard, we treated the front so it was a clear comparison.
The areas sprayed with the Ortho Max, the nutsedge hasn't returned.
The areas with the Sedgehammer, the nutsedge returned with a vengeance.
The entire area treated by the professional is brown. At least in the front yard, we still have a lawn!
We have truly tried a variety of methods to kill the nutsedge and have a clear understanding of what did and didn't work. Ortho Max works. We bought more from Amazon (only place I've found it) and treated the other side of our front yard with the same results..I am confident this product works the best of everything we tried.
I hate using chemicals of any kind to treat weeds. I'm more of a pull them up as I see them kind of person. But I was at my wit's end until I found this little green bottle. Yes, it's expensive for the small quantity that you get, but it works. I originally ordered 4 bottles, which covered about 90% of the weeds, and then had to order another 4 for a second treatment. But at this point, $80 seems cheap for the results! Two weeks after the first treatment, most of the nutsedge has turned brown and is dying. I just came in from spraying a second treatment, and made sure to cover all new sprouts that have appeared since the first one. My ornamental grasses, shrubs, and trees didn't seem to be affected at all by the overspray.Read more ›
I agree with some reviewers, in that it should come in a larger container, but i used it sparingly and maybe a little less thoroughly than the label says, but i can't be happier with the results. it is the most effective nutgrass killer i've ever used, and it costs 1 tenth what the others did.

I had this pesky "grass" in my pachysandra. Turns out it is yellow nutsedge. Never even heard of this in CT!!!!! So, I let it go for a few years and now have a real mess. Read morePublished 21 days ago by Sally B.
Sedge is dead with Ortho Max. I've tried using Sedgehammer for years and it hardly dings the leaf tips. Read morePublished 28 days ago by KatesLucy
I had lots of nutsedge growing in one area. I made the mistake of pulling and digging them out to get rid of them, but the more you do that the more it spreads because you have to... Read morePublished 1 month ago by Sideshow K
Kills the nutsedge and to my surprise actually kills wild violets too. Wish they offered it in a concentrate for tank sprayers.Published 1 month ago by Aaron Warner
Works great! Nutsedge is a real problem in my flower gardens. Not only does this product kill the plants, it seems to be inhibiting new growth. Read morePublished 1 month ago by Wayne Jenkins
