Protopresbyter Michael Pomazansky’s Orthodox Dogmatic Theology has long been regarded as a standard source of Orthodox theology. Since its publication in Russian in 1963, it has been used as the main theology textbook at Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary in Jordanville, New York; and since the publication of the first English edition in 1983, it has come to be regarded throughout the English-speaking world as one of the best introductory books on Orthodox theology. This helps with giving an Orthodox view point. However it is interesting how hostile the writer is towards any manifestation of the Holy Spirit. Theosis within itself was supposed to be an encounter with God. If you strip the Orthodox from any manifestation of the Spirit you have a dead religion. You might as well toss in the garbage the books by Dumitru Staniloae, St Gregory Palamas , St Seraphim of Sarov, St Symeon the New Theologian as well as the first 200 years of the early church. To relegate the manifestations of God to pictures and relics is dishonest to both the Bible and church history and tradition. Of course the writers do not flat out deny the move of the Spirit, but the relegation of them to the things mentioned about is not fair. God has had a movement throughout church history, where the book of Acts is still an ever present reality.

An EXCELLENT resource to have for anyone seriously curious about the Theology of the Eastern Orthodoxy faith.

The vast ocean that is Eastern Orthodox Theology is understandably intimidating at first glance. Nevertheless, Fr. Michael is like a wise and seasoned Captain guiding us and explaining the ways of this ocean, showing us the trusted markers used by many, even more seasoned than him, for this journey. He shows us the the vastness, describes its depths, and its beauty all in a way understandable to the layman.

I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in or practicing the Eastern Orthodox Faith.

A great resource but a bit long for an introduction to orthodoxy compared to other great books available. I preferred Kallistos Ware's The Orthodox Way, but found it helpful to read them side-by-side.

Had a little trouble with the clarity of prose, I assume this is related to it being written decades ago and translated from Russian?
