Warm, homey illustrations that almost seem to glow are paired nicely with the sweet storyline. As always, James Herriott knows his animals, and can capture their essence on paper. I have known cats like Oscar, who is most definitely a "people" cat--he loves to be in the thick of things!--and reading Oscar's story was like a touch of nostalgia. If your little one loves animals, do get them this book. I have a hunch they'll like it.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I think that anyone who reads this will feel more comfortable in nowing that many people may love them and that it is okay to have more than one "family." Many love you just the same and they can care for you in their own special way. I think Oscar is unique and even though this is just a book I respect the characters.

Mr Herriot once again did a fabulous job at telling a 'life story' of his own experience. This time was in fact his and his wife's experience with a 'stray' cat a little girl found and brought to them to care for. They did heal the cat and fell in love with him. And decided to keep him as their personal cat. They soon realized he loved to go to group gatherings and be apart of the town. But when his original owners come to claim him was heart wrenching for the Herriot's. But they knew the children who loved him missed him more than they would. They did go visit him and he remembered them and was happy.

Lovely book with a great story about Oscar the social cat! Heartwarming and knowing that such cats do exist in more places, it is so great to have this in book form.
Wish that there would be more of such warm and caring pet lovers that nourish a pet back to good health and give it LOVE!

This is a lovely little book with beautiful illustrations. James Herriot is a wonderful writer. I love all the different characters in his books but I especially love the animals.
