Frustrating for kids AND mom!

Love the concept and the Tangrams portion plays well, but the numbers and words are a mess. The pictures are not at all representative of the word they are supposed to spell. I'm adding several pics to explain. The numbers game is a bit confusing because there is no explanation of what they are supposed to do. They start off adding, then suddenly they just have to put a 2 and a 5 down to get 25 and it's quite slow in response time. Even if we keep going down to multiplication and division, it's just basic practice that they can get on any free app and not worth the money. So far these games are just frustrating my children. I'm debating whether to send it back but hoping for a response with fantastic updates first.

We bought Genius kit after hearing about it since long from kid's school and our friends who has the product. After playing with the product along with my daughter, I would highly recommend it and think it is every penny worth at the price $99.99. Though there are a lot of learning games in the market which allows kids to learn basic mathematics and practice it; I think this one is unique because it never makes them glued to the screen. As far a kid is concerned, it's like they are playing with chips of a board game or using a pen to draw and competing to finish the challenges thrown by the screen. That is so cool!
Of all the games, I loved the Numbers game. I can't think about a better way to teach kids addition and subtraction and that too at a mental math level. Osmo team has figured out a way to make the kids relate addition to "bring units together" and subtraction to "separate out units". That's precisely what it is and since the idea is hit at such a basic level, kids are easily able to grasp the concepts. I would highly recommend all parents to play these games along with the kids and gently let them understand that the things they are doing in Numbers game is nothing but the "boring" addition and subtraction they learn at their school. I have seen this really motivating my daughter who has now started using the mental calculation idea back at school while doing the same. In my opinion, this the best way to derive unbelievable value out of this product. You just need to do it a couple of times, your child will take it up from there. Similarly, found the Words game a good way to improve spellings and vocabulary. Osmo has lot more libraries on their My Osmo portal. Make sure you sign up while doing registration and download these libraries.

Okay so you get an item which is a 5 dollar piece of plastic. After that you have to set up an account, download apps (while it tells you to buy additional $10 apps), and create an account.

Next your kid will be able to play the games.

They are incredibly complicated and confusing.

You'd be better off buying a regular $5 app. This thing is too complicated for young kids to enjoy, and too simple for older kids. Biggest waste of money I have spent on Amazon.

Beware if using Amazon FreeTime

My kids have Kindle Fires set up with Amazon FreeTime for parental control. Getting Osmo to work on their Kindles has been an exercise in frustration. Everything you try to do will be blocked. First challenge is getting the Osmo app installed. To do it with FreeTime enabled, you have to download it on a parent device, then share it with the kid device, then download it onto the kid device. Now open the app on the kid device, it says you need an account. Blocked on the kid device. Do it on the parent device. Now login on the kid device and tell it which products you have. Now it tries to install something else based on the last question. Blocked. That's where I stopped to write this initial impressions review. Amazon and Osmo get an F in "Works Well With Others".
-UPDATE- 2 days later my kids have been able to use this by getting the individual apps for each activity, but still can't use the main Osmo app. The included pen for the princess drawing requires pressing so hard to make a dark enough line for Osmo to recognize that it broke during the first exercise. Abundant tears. My kids do like the activities they've been able to do, so I'm upping the rating to 3 stars. This product is a fantastic idea that just doesn't get it quite right.

Great for kids and works great on the kindle Fire

We have been osmo fans for a couple years now on the iPad. But the kindle fire is more economical for the kids to use so I am so glad they came out with a fire edition. We utilize the osmo games for homeschool with our 5 & 7 year olds.

The base is awesome with the extendable legs. When testing the letters, numbers and tangrams out while I set up a new kindle fire 7 all the games worked well. So far the games recognized the pieces well. We have issues sometimes when using them with the iPad version. I really feel so far it works better than with the iPad.

I look forward to the additional osmo games to come out for the fire so we can switch all our osmo game play to utilizing just the kindle fire.

The letters, numbers, and tangram pieces come in small stackable plastic boxes. Sometimes the lids stick a little when trying to get them off.

With this genius kit you can play the numbers, letters and tangram games but you can also use paper or dry erase board to play the monster, Newton and masterpiece games.

Great for stem learning from age 4-8

This set is actually upgraded quite a bit from their original set. It includes these great plastic containers perfect for storage.

My daughter really likes the tangrams - they have levels that get more difficult as it goes along.

The number game is pretty fun too but perhaps a little too easy for my 9 year old. But when we had the original set at age 5, I had her play with it for 10min everyday and I found she gained more confidence with addition and substraxtion. Plus she never complained playing with it (compared to practicing math in a traditional workbook)

I’d high recommend getting this kit starting age 4 or 5. But probably becomes too easy after age 8. If your child is younger, I’d recommend the junior kit!!

Expensive but my kids love it and I love that it uses technology in an educational and creative way. My 6 year old is able to use this pretty independently and even teaches her 2 year old brother play too!

The stand is quite big, so it's not as compact as the iPad version, but it works smoothly. You need to work on a plain surface to avoid confusing the tech. It's helpful to have dry wipe board in order to play the Monster drawing game without wasting loads of paper. Given the price, this should really be provided.

The Osmo device itself isn't battery-operated, so you only need to worry about charging the tablet, which you will do a lot as the kids have loved playing this so much!

Set up is pretty straightforward.
1. Create an online profile on the website.
2. Download the apps for the games on your tablet. It's a bit silly that it's a separate app download for each game, rather than a single app as a central loading point, but not a big deal.
3. Then launch each game on the tablet and begin playing.

I am extremely disappointed with this product. I thought I had checked compatibility quite carefully but I have found out on my daughter's birthday that it doesn't work with her new 2020 HD8 tablet, and that the return window closed two weeks ago. She thus has no present and £100 is down the drain. The compatibility should be much clearer with years given and warnings that you are buying something new that doesn't work with a new device. It looks like a great toy - I wish we could try it.

I have to agree with some other comments that it does not capture your little one' attention for too long, but hey everyone is different.
The games do lack variety though they seem to have different difficulty levels. I suspect ours might be faulty as well. For instance when my daughter plays words it constantly fails to capture the letters in front of it even if we try to move them after a bit which means her "opponent " takes its turn as well as the point and she looses the game most of the time. For 5 years old it is very frustrating and unfair especially because she does get the letters right. The drawing game is absolute disaster.
And we just missed the return/exchange date.
I guess you won't know if you like it until you try it, but I personally will not be getting any other games for this device, don't think it's worth it.

Firstly this is not a complete set. This only comes with 3 of the advertised learning games, the remaining two are just the apps without the tools with which to play them. I can't really see the point of downloading those apps if you're unable to use them.

Worst still it was not advertised that this needed an adapter for 8 - 10th generation Fire tablets and that this was not included in the set. We have no looked to see if we can get this separately but it is out of stock and has been for weeks. This has left us with a set we're unable to use for the foreseeable future.
