Although the FRAME (which is pretty solid, but can bend enough, depending if it’s not filled to max capacity) of the Fairview XS is technically measured at 19.3H X 13.8W X 8D IN (and is technically 38L), it STILL can fit underneath the seat—it takes the ENTIRE space, and thus, does not leave much foot space—but a minor sacrifice in my opinion, especially since this was the only bag I brought for enough essentials for a 3 day trip.
Keep in mind, this isn’t filled at capacity: it’s maybe about 10 - 12 lbs, although if I crammed it full it can easily handle about 15 lbs, if not 20 - 25 lbs.
As a (weak😆) 4’11 person, I found 15 lbs really heavy to deal with, especially during the airport check-in process, and certainly when I was under pressure to cram and take out the bag under the seat during passenger loading. I found that keeping it about 10 - 12 lbs was comfortable enough to handle on a packed flight.
This bag has close to the capacity of my “international sized” Delsey wheeled hand-carry, so even though it was a challenge to cram 3 days worth of stuff into the Fairview, the design (which opens like a suitcase) helps the packing process, and felt essentially like the hand-carry without the wheels. There’s belts on the inside (and outside) of the bag to create compression and keep the bag slim, but I think the packing cubes were more helpful in keeping organized, and certainly keeping the bag from exploding, lol.
As mentioned, I am 4’11 and about 105 lbs: it’s bigger than my torso! But the pack distributes the weight well, and I found it especially helpful to pack heavier on the bottom since the hips help to support more of the weight. It comes with an unpadded strap to convert the pack into a “duffel”, but it looked pretty big as a duffel and I thought may induce questioning from the agent.
The price of the Fairview is pretty expensive, but given all of the cramming and abuse of the airport travel process, the quality of this pack is impressive and totally worth it. The design of the back-brace is probably why it’s expensive: it contours and braces the back really well, and helps to hold the weight against the body. There are many straps that you can adjust to help brace the weight against the body and I found the self-adjusting hip-straps and shoulder-straps were really helpful in making the pack fit my body. I found that I didn’t need to have myself entirely strapped-in during the course of the airport process however—you won’t since you’ll be constantly taking it off and putting it on during the check-in process, but I feel that this will be a pretty solid pack for a backpacking trip, or an international-sized carry-on, and I’m glad I have that option—in addition to being my to-go to bag for my visits to Colorado on Frontier.
Since I could not find a decent review of the XS Fairview as it pertains to this issue of flying on Frontier specifically, I decided to write this and hope it was found useful for those who need a personal bag👍

This bag does not disappoint! I fit everything I needed into this pack and a regular-sized backpack and had enough space to bring home a pair of leather high tops and a couple new pieces of clothing. I use packing cubes, which help immensely and allow the internal compression straps to really reduce the volume of my stuff. Without the packing cubes the internal compression straps didn't do nearly as much compressing.
Other things I love about this bag: The dedicated soft pocket at the top, used to stuff my extra long-sleeved shirt or sun glasses; the shoulder strap that could be removed from the mesh stash pocket and clipped onto my bag as I was exiting the plane, never slowing me down and making it easy to juggle the pack; the zip-up back that hides the pack straps while putting the pack through xray machines or while carrying down the narrow airplane aisle; the waist belt that makes carrying heavy loads comfortable, and the carry handles on the top and side which made it easy to shift around.
On the way home my friend's bag broke, so I emptied my second bag to give to her and combined the contents of my second bag INTO THE FAIRVIEW AND IT HELD! You can see in the carpeted airport photo that the bag is stuffed full, but with Osprey's awesome zippers and lifetime warranty I felt safe taking the chance. And it paid off!
I took it to Denver for a weekend trip two weeks later and filled with with everything I possibly wanted to bring, because hey! Domestic travel! The bag ended up being super heavy, but still comfortable to carry. The waist strap and narrow shoulders made a big difference in comfort for this short girl. And I love how flat it stores compared to my other luggage.
I'm a HUGE fan of this bag and will continue to purchase Osprey products from now on! My next back pack for school will for sure be an Osprey. I don't have to be traveling to enjoy a quality bag!

The bag has got great padding in the straps and back, along with a ‘tech’ compartment in the front which can hold an iPad/laptop which is also padded. The main bag compartment is huge for a 40L bag. There are so many great features to this bag - definately watch some YouTube videos to see them all.
Using this bag to go travelling, very excited to use it and am expecting it to last a long time!

This backpack was brilliant.
Note I am fat, old and unfit and I found this backpack to be comfy enough. It was pretty crammed as I'm used to suitcases and 4*+ all inclusive where I don't need to think about what I pack.
On others advice I bought packing cubes, and whilst not necessary, did help keep items together.
The main compartment opens like a suitcase. There are two additional areas for tablets, books, phones etc. Plus 2 side pockets for water bottles.
The straps are comfy and once properly adjusted make carrying 10kg bearable.
Used as carry on luggage on Jet2.
My other half was miffed that the women's has a key clip when the mens doesn't.
Only thing that would make it better would to give different colour internal straps for ease of notice.
Yes the colour is more olive green than grey but personally I liked it and thought it looked classy.
Recommended you buy this bag.

I believe this is the best customer service I have come across, thank you Osprey

Edit a year later, still going strong this a great bag I often use when travelliing to Europe Skiing - I have one big board bag stuffed with suutff this on my back and a small wheeled cabin (I always leave one bag at the destination as return a few times .. I am not big so comfort and weight distribution very important. Really easy to manouvre and quality, if I check it in I zip up the coverfor the back pack straps etc
