Lightweight and streamlined, the Fairview Series is an ideal travel pack for fast-moving globetrotters. Despite their minimalist weights, these women's specific, full-featured packs offer plenty of organization and travel-focused features. The stowaway harness and hipbelt disappears for safe keeping when you check your bag, and durable fabrics offer added protection. A large panel zip provides convenient access to the main compartment, lockable sliders keep your gear secure, dual front compression straps slim down your pack when you carry less, and a padded laptop/tablet sleeve keeps your electronics secure. I have always been an over-packer, but knowing I had size and weight restrictions led me to buy this pack. I was easily able to take what I needed for our 16-day trip with room left for a few souvenirs on the way back. Despite my inexperience in using a backpack, this was so much easier than rolling a suitcase over cobblestone streets and the pedestrian bridges (most with stairs) in Venice. The pack itself weighs so little that I was easily able to heft it into the overhead bins on the plane, unlike a suitcase. I am a petite woman at 5'1" and this pack was very comfortable on my frame. I'm a convert!
There was also another difference in the shoulder straps, the XS/S had specialized Osprey clips to attach something else, while the S/M had elastic sewn across that could be used to attach something to it. Osprey changed systems so the older model has clips and the newer ones have the elastic.
I ended up returning both, since a 19" size would have been my preference due to airline restrictions.
If I were to keep one, I would have kept the S/M due to the shoulder strap placement making the pack ride more comfortably. I am 5'2" and according to the Osprey fitting chart with my torso length either size would work.
I am a 5'4", 130lbs female. When fully loaded at 8kg I realized it was a bit heavy but hip belt really helps in distribution of weight. Able to fit 2 pants, 2 thin sweaters, 4 short sleeved/2 long sleeved t-shirts, 5 socks/5 underwear, hiking boots, umbrella, small first aid kit, quart sized bag of toiletries, packable Gonex 40L backpack, travel guide and a Canon DSLR with lens and camera bag. Highly recommend using 2 medium sized packing cubes for clothing. Also recommend purchasing a cable lock instead of regular luggage lock, makes it easier to lock zippers on both compartments together.

The bag has got great padding in the straps and back, along with a ‘tech’ compartment in the front which can hold an iPad/laptop which is also padded. The main bag compartment is huge for a 40L bag. There are so many great features to this bag - definately watch some YouTube videos to see them all.
Using this bag to go travelling, very excited to use it and am expecting it to last a long time!
I believe this is the best customer service I have come across, thank you Osprey
It was a little bit like Merry Poppins’ bag - just when you think it’s full to the brim - suddenly there’s still space for bits and pieces so you end up adding in and adding in!
For those who want to use it as a hand luggage on a plane - no one asks any questions at the boarding gate about the size (I was a little worried for some reason), it fits perfectly into the overhead locker, and you wizz through the airport with both hands free (or carrying a book, a hat, a bottle of water, my phone and a passport in my case).
It’s a winner!
This backpack was brilliant.
Note I am fat, old and unfit and I found this backpack to be comfy enough. It was pretty crammed as I'm used to suitcases and 4*+ all inclusive where I don't need to think about what I pack.
On others advice I bought packing cubes, and whilst not necessary, did help keep items together.
The main compartment opens like a suitcase. There are two additional areas for tablets, books, phones etc. Plus 2 side pockets for water bottles.
The straps are comfy and once properly adjusted make carrying 10kg bearable.
Used as carry on luggage on Jet2.
My other half was miffed that the women's has a key clip when the mens doesn't.
Only thing that would make it better would to give different colour internal straps for ease of notice.
Yes the colour is more olive green than grey but personally I liked it and thought it looked classy.
Recommended you buy this bag.
Edit a year later, still going strong this a great bag I often use when travelliing to Europe Skiing - I have one big board bag stuffed with suutff this on my back and a small wheeled cabin (I always leave one bag at the destination as return a few times .. I am not big so comfort and weight distribution very important. Really easy to manouvre and quality, if I check it in I zip up the coverfor the back pack straps etc
