Awesome backpack but probably bigger than you expect.

Awesome backpack but probably bigger than you expect.
Took this on a week trip to New York, flying with Spirit Airlines. I was able to fit 6 shirts, three pants, 4 underwear, 4 socks, electronic accessories, a jacket, umbrella, osprey day lite pack, and a few pins and shirts I brought back from NYC. Straps and hip belt distribute weight VERY well. As good or better than my Lowepro camera backpack (also the manufacturer of Lowe Alpine packs) in regards to weight distribution. It unfortunately does not fit in the Spirit personal item box very well (I bought it because I saw a photo online of someone having it fit in the personal item box- it actually may have been the smaller women's version that fits), but Spirit didn't charge me for it nor pulled me aside or anything on both flights. It does fit under the seat on Spirit, but of course it's a little tall so it sticks out.The straps are really comfortable but the hip belt is even better.. I had to walk around for about 4 hours before we could check into our Airbnb around NYC.Unfortunately, I didn't feel safe putting my laptop in the laptop compartment when the main area of the back is full. I returned it for this reason and of course the length is a little long in case any budget airlines decide to pull me to the side to check in my bag.I will likely be getting the smaller 30L Porter for my next trip as it has a laptop space in the main compartment rather than the middle compartment that the Farpoint does.Awesome backpack if you are willing to possibly pay the carry-on fees or maybe you'll be lucky just using it as a personal item on budget airlines.
