Been using an Exos 48 for several years. Have really tuned in on my gear after 5000 plus miles since retirement and now use the Exos 38. My base load is 12 lbs and winter max 14 lbs.. 17-20lbs with 3 days food and 1 1/2 liter of water. The pack volume is still not maxed out -so room for a couple of add on items if needed. Interestingly --Everything I carried in the Exos 48 fits into the 38. This pack carries my weight range perfectly. I did add a Mountain Laurel hip pocket on the right side--which by the way is a perfect fit on the pouchless hip belt system. (I do not carry the pack brain).....The suspension system is great..shoulder comfort and hip belt fit and comfort is the best. I distribute my pack weight at 75% hips--25% shoulders for a center of gravity at mid back. Better balance for an old dude..Could not ask for a more comfortable suspension system as the Exos. I've tried them all--hands down the Exos. I am 5 10 170 and the medium size fits perfect. Would not recommend the pack for over 25lbs...Only complaint is still--had same problem with Exos 48 --the frame squeaking where the shoulder strap attaches to the top of the pack and pushes down on the frame. . Irritating but easily remedied with a small piece of foam pushed in between shoulder strap and rigid frame.. It does eventually go away with use..I did two 100 mile hikes with the 38 and simply love it..My strongest recommendation for the avid hiker.

My Trekking Bag

I purchased this for European trekking when I was not carrying a shelter or kitchen. The smaller size is just right for "hostel" or "hut" trekking loads. I have started using it for summer backpacking when I am going ultra-light. I like the lower weight. I wish it had an alternate bottom load/entry. Carries the weight fine up to 25 pounds, but then the shoulder strap pads roll a little. It doesn't have belt pockets -- not a biggie, but a consideration. Also, the smaller strapping tends to slide open a little under weight -- and requires some adjustment -- my Osprey 55 liter Atmos is much better over 25 pounds.

This was on my wishlist for 2 years and it was a dream come true to open the box when it came. The pack height isn't where I wanted it but that's a nonfactor as it's super comfortable and lightweight. No regrets. More upset I waited as long as I did to buy it. Took it on a 6 mile morning day hike in 90 degree weather and even with the muggy sweat enducing weather it was still very comfortable.

Great lightweight pack. Can fit quite a bit in it and it carries well if you keep the load not much more than 25 lbs in my experience(I target about 18lbs for a long weekend without beer). It was between this and the stratos. The kicker for me was the stretch pouch on the outer. A huge complaint is the lack of hipbelt pockets but otherwise an awesome pack.

This pack is really comfortable on a day trek. It has enough space to extend to a weekend trek if desired. I sweat a lot, but the design of the back of the pack keeps me reasonably dry compared to anything else I have tried. I am amazed at the lightness of the pack - I hardly know that I have it on. I can not recommend this pack enough.

Excellent hiking pack with lots of room and is water resistant for any light showers. The frame curves slightly to fit your back in a more natural way which is comfortable. However this means that it is a bit awkward fitting things inside the pack and, more to the point, finding something!

It is also has surprisingly large dimensions for a 38L pack which was surprisingly. Very tall and kind of wide, but doesn’t stick out very far. I suppose this is on purpose to help keep your centre of gravity more central and make it easier to be carrying the pack for long days.
