This blender exploded on my wife on only its third use. A piece of glass the size of a golf ball shot out of the pitcher approximately 10 feet away. The glass sliced her finger but could have done much worse if she was standing somewhere else or if anyone else had been in the room.
The blender only contained yogurt, milk, a banana and five strawberries and was on a medium setting. After only five seconds, the blender exploded.
Amazon was very helpful in promptly refunding. We will not buy any more Oster products and advise against buying any yourself.

Pico de Gallo½ bunch fresh cilantro 3 firm tomatoes, cut into chunks 1 white onion, cut into quarters 1 jalapeño pepper, halved (optional) ¼ cup lime juice 1. Tomatillo Salsa2 tablespoons water 1/2 pound tomatillos (about 3 medium), husks removed, cored and quartered 1/2 cup white onion, coarsely chopped 1/2 small serrano pepper, quartered 1 garlic clove, chopped 1/8 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons cilantro leaves, coarsely chopped 1 teaspoon lime juice 1. Oster must have changed the design because I don't see what those people are talking about. It looks almost like a Ball jar or Mason jar fitting at the top of the cup to me, which shouldn't be too hard to clean.
####The "Plastic" outter shell brushed chrome covering for the blender, feels rather sturdy to me. It shouldn't break, or be a problem for people, unless they are total clutzes, or drop appliances all the time. The aesthetic may look and feel cheap to some people, but so do new cars nowadays to me.
I have included pics of the outside of the blender, underneath the glass pitcher -and inside, also the blender cup with a pic of the top that attaches, for a visual reference.

I just purchased this product from Amazon, and immediately upon receipt, I proceeded to make a smoothie using frozen blackberries, milk, juice, a banana, and dried fruits. The only thing that did not blend well were the dried fruits I included(I don't think I blended them long enough, or used the proper function, so it's not the blender's fault ). This blender was loud at times, and quiet at others, depending on what function I tried it on.Because I added the liquids first (per the manufacturer's directions in the booklet included)then the frozen blackberries last, the blender had no problems blending frozen fruit. It took less than 2 mins. to blend a 1 lb bag of frozen blackberries into the ingredients, to make a perfect smoothie.So far, the blender on this model is hands down the fastest blender I have used or owned. I have owned previous Osters and Hamilton Beach blenders, and they would always not be able to incorporate the ingredients well, or make a smoothie the right consistency. I read reviews of this item before purchasing, and upon reading the instruction manual when I received this blender today, I see where some people may be using this blender improperly, or have unrealistic expectations. Per the manufacturer's directions in a nutshell: don't overload the blender(blending in small batches is best), hold the top of the blender down when blending(but don't be heavy handed)even hold down when using the food processor. If you want to crush ice, use the Pulse function ONLY. If you have anything frozen in your blender, you have to include more than enough liquid to handle the frozen items. A small amount of liquid(say a 1/4 cup) just won't be adequate enough to blend frozen items well without overworking the motor. I have yet to use the food processor, but when I do use it, I will give an update.By Nki on July 30, 2017

My wife and I have been using the blender and food processor for almost a year. We are very happy with the blender. We got it because it has a glass jar and our goal with it was to avoid plastic. However the food processor has a blade with a lid that come in contact with each other when in use. One day while washing the food processor's lid I noticed that it has some thin plastic chips that were obviously cut by the disc with the blade. I took pictures of how it happens. When food is pushed down the shaft, the disc does not stay perfectly straight on its axel and this creates an angle to its rotation that makes it cut the plastic lid! If you want to avoid plastic chips in your food, then avoid using the food processor!
