Timeless looks and powerful performance combine in one sleek machine. The Oster Beehive Blender has a classic toggle switch which controls two speeds and a whopping 600 watts of power. It’s got every blending possibility covered, from frozen drinks to dips, sauces to smoothies, and soup to nuts. The 5-cup glass jar has been Thermal Shock tested so you can pull it out of a steamy dishwasher and safely make a frosty cold beverage right away. The stainless steel “ice crusher” blade does just that so you get smooth frozen drinks every time. The Oster Beehive Blender is made in North America and backed by the superior quality of All Metal Drive. Because the two pieces that connect are metal (instead of plastic), you get a more durable and longer-lasting blender that will function flawlessly, party after party, year after year. Has a 1-year warranty.

The trick with this machine is to start blending on the pulse setting (flip down), then, when the first phase of chopping/blending is well under way, flip the button right up to high speed, without stopping in between. I like the lid with its fill-in middle lid, which is separate. One can rotate it slightly to lift it off, and then use the 1.5" wide opening to add olive oil or other liquids, or maybe also berries or other morsels.
It is a little loud when operating, but that bothers me none, since the machine only works for short periods, less than 2 minutes mostly.
This is the blender to have; small foot print on your counter and plenty of power.
I use mine every day and of course bad things will happen after a few years.
I keep the usual hopper parts that I know will fail but when the motor bearings eventually give out after thousands of hours the thing to do is retire it for a new one as the price is right for the service rendered.
The lid on this one is different to fit the different design jar (smaller) and I have not found an official Oster smaller design replacement.
(sooner or later you need a new lid if you are going to blend wash with 200 degree water 7 or 8 hours a year)
I made an all solid state timer for mine in a 2 by 3 by 4 inch metal box that will handle 40 amps of over kill current handling that runs steps of time intervals of 30 seconds. Took a few days to find a suitable box but this saves me countless time of standing by with a clock. There might be a commercial version of my timer but where I live you cannot buy anything that is not available in the box stores.
Four stars because it's VERY noisy.
If it had not broken so quickly, I would rate it a 5 star because it blends so smoothly and completely. If you don't use the blender as an everyday item, or if you don't replacing it every so often then I would say get this blender and it will do a great job for you!
But the hard rubber coupling between the motor & the blade finally broke & it was impossible to remove the rusted screws to take it apart so that I could replace that $5 coupling. I was so disappointed to lose my faithful old solid metal blender.
I researched new blenders for a long time, because I tend live on smoothies during the summer & I wanted one that might hold up almost as long as my old one.
After reading many Amazon (and other) reviews of many machines, I concluded that a modern version of the Oster beehive would meet my needs.
I was not disappointed. Although the beehive body is now not the heavy steel it once was, the motor is quite powerful. It does a great job of blending up frozen fruit and ice into a smooth purée in no time. It seems like it might be a little louder than the old one, but not unusually loud for a powerful blender.
I definitely think it's the best blender for the price & I'm glad I got it. I expect to have this baby for a long time!
The glass container is casted, and the split of the molds just happen to be right along the handle bar. There's quite a high casting seam on the handle bar that it actually hurts to hold the container if it's filled with water. It's not sharp enough to cut you, but it feels like it.
The bottom of the glass container can be screwed opened, so that helps with cleaning, but the rod holding the blade has this cap on it and there's a gap all around end of the cap, so cleaning that is very inconvenient.
