Smart settings are conveniently programmed to blend the perfect smoothies, salsas and milkshakes in just one touch so you never have to guess how long or what speed to blend your ingredients. Update: the blender still works great, but if you attempt to order an extra cup from oster, you're in for quite the experience. I was given some kind of tall tale about the cup not being manufactured anymore. When mentioned to the rep that they were still selling the blender (with the cup in question no less) this was explained away that there were still some in circulation. And this was after she tried to sell me the wrong cup, in spite of my protestations that this cup (as stated by Amazon and their own website) was (for some psychotic reason) not compatible with my particular blender.
TLDR: If you're expecting to buy this blender and be able to buy accessories for it, you're in for a bizarre and frustrating experience, thus I have significantly lowered my score.
Update 2. Blender died. Just barely a year of service. Just shut off and wouldn't come back on. On Friday I was on my way to work and called oster about a warranty. Lady demands the serial number and refused to help any further. Now it's Monday, and now that oster is back open I'm on hold. Actually this is my fourth call of the day. The previous three calls say, "due to unusually high call volume, we are unable to handle this call." It then hangs up on you. Infuriating. Will update if I ever get someone to answer.

After comparing many reviews and weeding through the hype and learning how the commercial blenders work I decided to search for something that shared those qualities, all Metal Drive, Reverse action, lots of power for home use and a glass or stainless steel blending pitcher to reduce exposure to estrogenic plastics and reduce the cost of replacement parts. on Ebay I learned that the old trusty Vitamix's of the 90s had stainless steel pitchers and an average wattage of 850. If 850 watts was all a commercial business needed then that's all I need at home. I won't be making 100 smoothies a day like the Vitamix would be expected to do. The Oster 1200 pro is an average of 900 which is more than the older Viatmix 3600s. Logic would say this blender is all I would need. So far I have made 4 smoothies and some frozen banana strawberry ice cream. I've read complaints of people not being able to use it without added liquid... why would you not add liquid to your smoothie? It is important to lubricate the blades and not push any machine with too many frozen solids or tough stems.
I used the commercial Vitamix blenders for 5 years at Starbucks. Even those machines had to have a thawing period for frozen fruit, had to have a liquid in them along with the ice and other ingredients to make smoothies and Frappacinos. They are indeed workhorses, but i don't need a workhorse like that at home. This blender is enough for me. It performs like a Vitamix. It creates a vortex, is programmed, has a glass pitcher, doesn't runaway on the counter (no serious vibration) yes it's loud (get a sound a dampener like smoothie shops have if thats a problem for you) Someone mentioned rust on their blades... don't rinse it and let it sit. I run soap and water through the blender then take it all apart and rinse each piece then air dry. I had to do the same for the vitamix's. Both the pitcher and the to-go cup work great on the blender.
The only Con i have experienced is the lid on the to-go cup. It slides forward when you take a drink, a minor annoyance. Maybe add a locking mechanism on the lid? I have no serious complaints about this blender. If I encounter anything I will update my review.
All in all this is a great machine.
Problem #1: Blender cup began to leak at the seam in the plastic at the top of the cup (this seam is the one that cannot be cleaned very well). It only leaked when it was being blended in, so I ended up with smoothie on the base of the blender a few times before I figured out that I had assembled the blade, gasket and screw on lid correctly and it was the cup leaking. Oster sent me a new blender cup for free!
Problem #2: The screw on base with the gasket and blade for the blender jar and and smoothie cup became stuck on the smoothie cup. I tried everything to get the the two separated. My husband tried. I googled for ideas and tried them all. I called Oster customer service and tried their ideas. Nothing worked. I called Oster back and they are replacing the whole thing with a brand new one. So...customer service is good.
Now for the complaint. The rubber gasket, or seal, has been discontinued. I am unhappy that a company would continue to sell a product which is not discontinued and no longer offer parts that are critical to the performance of the product.
Update 1/31/19: Blender motor is still great. Unit makes great smoothies and shakes. My issue is with the base, blade and gasket. It is now stuck on the glass blender container. I can't get it off and neither can my husband. We tried several tricks. I have one more idea...a filter wrench. If that doesn't work, I'll look for a new blender. I would be concerned that the gasket and blade wouldn't be clean.
