Top customer reviews
I tried this one and works great and cooks 1 big 1.5" thick waffle in under 2 minutes.
Very easy to use.
1) plug in and let it warm up. wait for green light.
2) pour batter on the bottom groove (once you pour it in it's already started cooking.
3) close and flip it over (don't worry it will not spill out) Once you flip it . the uncooked batter will fall down and start to cook .
4) wait for green light and flip back. open up and take out. Very beautiful
I recommend that you try the recipe that is in the book for buttermilk or Belgium waffles...they are really delicious and not that hard to put together.
I tried buying those instant mix on Amazon and the home made recipe in the book wins 2nd to none. Plus you're save a lot of $$$ using the recipe and make more...
I recommend you buy pam or any other cooking spray and spray gently on the top and bottom plate for easy non-stick cooking.
The only downside to owning one of these is that you can't remove the plates for washing.
so you have to wait till it's cooled down in order to clean the grooves manually with water or mild soap. It may take you 10-15 minutes to clean it. But that's all part of the fun and worth it.
minus 1 star for non removable plate. But for under $50 ...you make like 20 waffles it pretty much pays off.
here is a photo of the waffle [...]
1) The waffles are phenomenal. Almost too good, after all you can't eat waffles all the time! I've tried two different recipes and both worked well. I will say a really fluffy belgian recipe may not be the best as the waffles are thick and they can collapse under their own weight.
2) The thing is wicked easy to use. You plug it in, fill it up, flip it over and wait for the green light, that's it!
3) Super easy to clean
Couple of things you should know.
First the drip tray goes on top of the bottom bar (I had a moment where I thought it must go underneath the whole thing
You will over/under fill it at first, no worries, it just takes a little adjusting to get it right.
Same with the doneness, play with the heat control until you get it exactly where you want it. Took me two tries, so it is not hard.
Don't flip it back. I did that once cause I had forgotten to make my heat adjustment. you wind up with a weird separated waffle, don't do it.
In general, I would plan for your first batch to be experimental, but once you've dialed it in you are solid forever
Finally, for those of you who gave a lower rating because they couldn't figure out how to turn these things. Really?!? OK, it only turns in one direction, but it turns in that direction freely, and does not turn on the other at all. So go with the machine and you will be fine.
Hope you enjoy yours!
First temperature control or darkness control. Being able to set the temp of the irons help to reduce cooking time if you like darker waffles like I do. The flipping feature makes the waffles thicker and fluffier in the middle rather than being compact. The 2 waffle iron plates are covered in a non stick coating but using non stick spray is still recommended for easy waffle removal. Clean up is also very easy.
Since I bought this I have also been experimenting with cooking other things on a waffle maker.
My favorites: Cinnamon Buns (cook at about medium for 3-4 min) for best results try to place each bun in its own quarter.
Pizza Waffle Bites (cook at medium-high 2-4min) The way I like best role out your favorite dough (I have used Pillsbury biscuit and pizza doughs, my favorite was the biscuit dough) For biscuit method: role the dough till its about 6-10" long. role in just back and forth, do not role to widen it. Cut the rolled dough in half. On each of the 2 strips place your favorite toppings. I put sauce, cheese, and pepperoni. Leave a little room on each end long ways. Role the dough (long ways) around the filling and cook each in their own quarter.
My to try list: brownies, omelet, banana bread, biscuits and french toast.
My search is over. This is waffle maker number six. I am satisfied. The waffles are thick. Took off a star because it doesn't beep when ready. Spray non stick once before first waffle and you won't need to for the rest of the batch. The handle is plastic so be careful which way you flip. But you can't beat the price. And it does what it's supposed to.
