They are the creator of the Stonewall Honor Award–winning graphic novel As the Crow Flies and Stage Dreams. Melanie Gillman is a cartoonist and colored pencil artist who specializes in LGBTQ books for kids and teens. They are the creator of the Stonewall Honor Award-winning graphic novel As The Crow Flies (Iron Circus Comics, 2017), as well as Stage Dreams (Lerner/Graphic Universe, 2019). Their newest book, Other Ever Afters, a collection of original queer fairy tale comics, is now available from Random House Graphic. In addition to their graphic novel work, they also teach in the Comics MFA Program at the California College of the Arts.

    I really love this collection. Fair warning though--a lot of these stories do not get tied up neatly. Ambiguous endings are really fun for some people, but if that is not your thing, this might not be the collection for you. I loved it anyway, but I wish I'd gone in knowing that some comics ended without a tidy resolution. Still, this is an amazing collection that deserves more attention. I'm anxious to see what the author does next.
