First of all this could possibly be my favorite Jenn Sterling book to date. Yep you read that right. FAVORITE! I've loved Dean for years and to get The Perfect Game from his POV was everything! Go ahead start your eye rolling, I know what you're thinking. But you need to stop! I know we all have our thoughts on alternative POV's but I can assure you that this is a story you haven't read yet. It follows the same time line as The Perfect Game. It starts at a frat party and ends in New York (kind of). Sure we get some of the same scenes but honestly it is so much more.
I can't tell you how many times I teared up reading this story. Because while we got Jack and Dean's relationship ship in previous books from ego driven Jack's pov this time around we truly get to see what is was like between the two of them. Jack is Dean's hero in every sense of the word. Dean is his brother's biggest fan. Always proud, always happy for him and always having his back. So to see the toll that this story as a whole took on Dean was a little more that my ticker could handle at times. We also get to see a different side of Jack. Despite his cocky, no ones gonna hurt me demeanor, Jack is a huge softy when it comes to his family. We may have gotten some glimpses of that previously but not to this extent so it's fun and emotional at times to experience. Add to that the way he feels about Cassie and I was giddy. I love that he loves Cassie like a sister. Dean just has the kindest heart and you want nothing more that for him to be happy.
I could probably go on for a lot longer. But I won't. What I will say is that I loved Gramps in this book. Every time he referred to Cassie as Kitten I smiled like a kid in a candy store. And as far as some of the scenes that made us hate Jack F'n Carter in TPG I think maybe we come away with a better understanding of his frame of mind and the hurt he was experiencing right along with Cassie. So overall if you're a fan of The Perfect Game series you won't want to miss this. Dean's pov will give you new perspective, maybe some tears and a lot more reasons to love the entire gang!
Freshman in College, Dean Carter knows all too well what it’s like to be Jack F’n Carter little brother. See Jack and Cassie’s story through Dean’s eyes and get a never before glimpse of what was going on with Melissa (Cassie’s best Friend) and Dean before the Sweetest Game book.
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review and J Sterling did an amazing job writing from Dean’s point of view.
Life as Jack F’n Carter’s little brother wasn’t always easy but Dean knew what Jack was going through. Both of them had to deal with crappy parents who left them to be raise by the most amazing grandparents they could ever ask for.
Dean met Melissa before Jack ever met Cassie but Dean didn’t have the confidence that his big brother had. He wasn’t the love them and leave them guy that Jack was. Dean wore his heart on his sleeve but this didn’t always work out for him. Dean is a quiet yet strong man who knows what he wants and he wants Melissa. The only problem is she runs hot and cold all the time it hard to tell just where he stands with her. To top it off having your brother date the best friend of the girl you want to date just adds more complication to the mix.
Reading this book was like coming back home to visit with the Carter’s. I loved that J Sterling gave her readers a different point of view to Jack and Cassie story. Dean gave the readers a side of Jack and Cassie story they wouldn’t normally get. It’s like having the deleted scene from a movie finally being released. I got to reminisce the good times and the bad times with Jack and Cassie with the added bonus of getting the dirt on what happened between Dean and Melissa.
What was missing from this book was more about what was going on in Dean’s life at that time. I wanted to read more about what was going on with Melissa and him while Jack and Cassie’s story was being told by his point of view. Don’t get me wrong this was an amazing book and it’s a great addition to the Perfect Game series. You don’t want to miss out on this book and I high recommend reading it as you can never get enough of the Carter Family!!!
