in one week, in this volume, clark comforts edith sitwell, smoothes over a longstanding feud between walter lippman and dean acheson and visits ezra pound in his confinement at a mental institution. this is a great read, as was the first volume of his memoirs, abounding with characters from the second half of his life. fun read.

The second volume of Lord Clark's memoirs: indispensible reading for admirers of his Civilization series and all lovers of art. The man was so charming and that rare thing: a true aethete, who would weep at the sight of beauty whether in nature or art.
