This book is excellent. It is a stripped down, no fluff, honest look at what marriage to a sociopath can do to someone, can do to the entire family. And though we do not hear what happens when the kids grow up, even if this man dies, I would imagine they will all forever be affected because of his actions as they were growing up.

I was, at first, frustrated, with the "stream of consciousness" sort of way this book is written. It was a little difficult to get into. What helped me most was to listen with text to voice on my Kindle. Oh, my. Gives me chills. To hear the book out loud was like being in the author's head and I believe that is what she intended when she wrote it this way. It was overwhelming, frightening, suffocating, humiliating, on and on, to hear what this woman went through.And to realize how she was treated by society AND the legal system was disheartening and, frankly, sickening.

I really love this book. I cried most of the way through it and found it helped my aching heart and stomach to take breaks. Many thanks for the author's honesty and bravery in telling her story. I will read it again someday. And believe me -- I will never look at a custody case in any casual way ever.

Should be mandatory reading for anyone and everyone connected to family law in any way.

Caution: You will not want to put this memoir down.

An amazing mother fights through obstacles you never could have believed existed in the U.S. -- unless you've actually been forced to face a truth that must be exposed. And thank God this author has created something positive & freeing with her pain.

Every judge, lawyer, & counselor should be REQUIRED to read this memoir.

If you have experienced the indescribable (wait -- Helen succeeds in describing it) hell of a charmer's intense, obsessive, unending hate, & his (or her) methodically planned emotional torture, then you will feel relieved that someone has been brave enough to relive her experience by capturing the words for this unimaginable type of abuse and the legal system that actually supports it. This subject should be the discussion of every national news program (Hey, Oprah! Hey, Lisa Ling! Hello all investigative reporters interested in ending corruption!)

And buy a copy for every 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th wife (yes, the liars are that good & they manipulate the professionals whose job it is to protect as well as the village whose task it is to help raise once innocent children who deserve a healthy, safe, & loving environment).

I am so grateful for this book. Although it is not an "easy read" it affirms what it is really like to try to end a relationship with a malignant narcissistic sociopath. I tried to end a relationship like this and it was just as this book describes - and, no one will understand because they do not have this experience. (A child can end up with trauma bonding ( Stockholm Syndrome) if the sociopath keeps the child away from the other parent which is what happened to me. The court system is worthless and ignorant about a divorce like this. My ex-husband has absolutely not one shred of remorse or regret and he destroyed his own children to "win" just as this book describes. As people within a society, we should never forget the havoc a sociopath can wreak within a family. This is truly heartbreaking for all the children that have a parent like this. Thank you to H.G. Beverly for her words and her tenacity to actually write this book. It took a lot of courage to write this book.

I love this book. I came across it somewhat randomly, and once I started reading it, I could not put it down. (I think I got through it in about 2 days.) It is not a novel. And in its pages you will feel the suffocation & frustration of what it is to be caught in the grip of a sociopath's control. H.G. Beverly writes in a non-conventional style that makes the reader (at least for me it did) feel the sheer desperation & at-a-loss one can feel when a sociopath seems to have control of some of the most important aspects of one's life....and seek to destroy that which should be normal, everyday given rights to anyone. I did not find this read entertaining, but informative & also very angering....a few times I wanted to yell at some of the folks in the book that did not believe her & continued enabling the antagonists atrocious, "under-the-radar" crimes against her. By the end of the book, I felt like I had not just read the words of a complete stranger, but the words of a good friend, or a family member, fighting a fight no one should have to....and a huge part of myself & my heart goes out to this author, and wants to fight with her. But also, this is just a very well-written book, a memoir, if you will. An inside look on the sheer devastating harm that sociopaths can wreak, and that there are people like this that exist. Other folks need to be aware of this & quit looking at normal people like they are crazy when they try to tell others that there ARE, indeed, people who exist out there who are very full of evil intent, & that they are being harmed by such people. Love this book, not for its "entertainment" value, but for its message. Hold it close to my heart in the full hope that this amazing woman finds serenity again, and soon.
