The Other Side challenged me to see Proverbs in a new way, and as something much deeper than formulaic life lessons for fridge magnets.
While the book calls out the nerds who want aphorisms explained, it also explores love, horror, and epic in explicitly enlightening ways that I found very helpful. The essays are both learned and accessible, and the authors present themselves as fellow-travelers on the path to wisdom. The photo visualizations between the essays are a subtle commentary, and just the right breathing space between the rich essays. I'll be thinking about this book for a long time.
Proverbs point us to a better way. Through story and modern, visual representations, The Other Side challenges us to revisit these words of wisdom -- to live with eyes open to see this better way forward. Highly recommend.
