About the Author
Patricia Griffin, member and past president of the Black Hills Writers Group, has written since her youth and later received the Rapid City Fine Arts Council Creative Writing Award. The Other Side: Rebellion Night is her first novel. The sequel, Redemption Knight, is scheduled for release late 2011. The "Voice" in both novels stems from her vivid encounter with the Holy Spirit on the night a gunman threatened her coworker. On a lighter note, Patricia's heritage of one-third resilient South Dakotan, one-third Texas rebel, and one-third bulldog makes for a diversified life. Throw in the twin traits of a Gemini and you have a woman who dances the two-step and jitterbug, clogged briefly, and performed eleven years as a soloist and troupe member of a belly dance group for summer festivals and conventions. Her training on clarinet eventually led to playing the baritone saxophone as well as alto and tenor sax. Patricia works as a career cosmetologist when she's not sipping chai and writing.

Poor, orphaned, Tracy Nielsen lives her early teen years in a miserable state of affairs. Her exploits bring her more burdens than many of us could ever endure. Many Christians struggle to openly verbalize their faith to others and Tracy is no exception. But her spirtual strength gains with each new challenge and her desire to verbalize her faith grows with each new challenge. A lesson for all Christians!
The setting for this book is quite creative. If you let your imagination run, you can scarily see this setting developing in our own USA. This should be a cause for everyone's faith to grow stronger. Can't wait for the next book in the series.
The novel takes place in the near future. A sexually-transmitted plague has decimated earth's population and, true to human nature, people look for somebody to blame; totally without proof, they select Christians. Churches are burned, and ultimately the wealthy shun the poor, sheltering in protected, walled cities. Tracy, a runaway who survives the Christian purges seemingly accidentally, finds herself unable to cross into Silver City, the home she had left years earlier. She's stuck in the Other Side, the slums, where life is tenuous and gang membership the surest way to survive. An adept practitioner of martial arts, Tracy has abilities needed in the OS. But if she uses those skills, there will be significant consequences.
This novel follows Tracy through first love, emotional trials, battles resulting in both defeat and victory, and details her spiritual journey through decision after decision, trauma after trauma. This book is first in a series, and I'm definitely looking forward to the next. Tracy's journey is truly a unique one, and I'm anticipating another great read.
When a plague wipes out most of humanity and the society is thrown into chaos, the blame falls upon the Christian communities across the United States. An orphaned teen who's taken in by a community of Christian exiles, Tracy Neilsen is driven from her home and attempts to rejoin the new society rising from the ashes of the old.
Along the way lie dangers, death, and the unexpected blossoming of romance...themes that will resonate strongly with readers of all stripes. Highly recommended and compulsively readable, I'm already looking forward to this book's planned sequel.
