I got an iPhone5 recently and after owning a 3GS for 2 years and having an Otterbox Commuter case for it and being very happy with it, I went right to this one.

The main reason I took off a star is due to the screen film protector, it's nearly impossible to get on without at least a couple bubbles. After watching the video(which makes it look so easy) I tried it and couldn't get it to stick once i started pulling off the final layer, so I think that didn't help doing it over a couple times. Use a plastic store card(don't bend up a working credit card) over the cheap piece of junk included to help push out the bubbles. Mine has a small one near the center and some of the bottom edges have bubbles out to the edge. However the case protects these on the edge from getting worse(better than the 3GS did). As far as the protector itself, it doesn't distort the great Retina display at all, IMO. Wipes clean very easily with a microfiber cloth and a touch of water if needed.

The case fits very flush to the phone and it definetly feels protected. It isn't quite as rounded as the 3GS was, that is partially due to the phone design. I can see why some people don't like how much "bulk" it adds to the phone, it almost doubles the thickness. Not a problem for me personally. The port covers are all flush and fit like a glove and lined up absolutely perfectly. The power button is a little hard to press, it's nowhere near "impossible" like some said. I think it has loosened a little after a few weeks of usage. The charger/power port cover doesn't quite close 100% after leaving a charger on overnight, minor quibble. It fits in but is bend outwards just a little bit. Also as I read from other reviews, the $29 lightning to dock connector doesn't fit with this case(or so they say), so I had to give in and buy the stupid $39 cable version. Even the Apple store employee was like "are you sure you need this? You know it's $39 right?" I so wanted to go off on him and tell him his employer is absolutely screwing people over, but I restrained myself. That cable/adaptor fits in the charger port with this case just fine.

I also like how the opening for the camera/flash is much bigger than the tiny pinhole opening on the 3GS.

So long as you don't plan on needing the cheaper lightning/dock adaptor, this case works great and IMO is a great blend between protection and function. The defender is way too bulky and most people don't need it to be able to withstand being run over by a truck. This protects the phone yet it still slides right into your pocket easily.

I recently picked up an iPhone 5 and needed a new case. I've owned other Otterbox products before to hold some of my audio stuff, so I know their stuff is tough, and it was almost a no brainer to pick up their case for the iphone. I already knew that their case wasn't going to be tiny- in fact, I took my phone out today to clean and I was astonished at just how small my phone was naked; however, I find this to be a pretty small tradeoff for the protection my phone is getting. Another good thing is- the case is made of the same kind of plastic that is used on their Otterbox 2000 cases, so it's extremely hard and reasonably scratch resistant. It's slide around desks, and tables, and I don't have a single mark on my case yet, which I've read is quite the opposite of those Speck candy shell cases I was also looking into.

Unfortunately, I possess butter fingers (probably just like you, since you're looking into this case), and I'm happy to report that this case can and will protect your phone. I have yet to drop my phone, but the case is so sturdy with the rubber lining and plastic outer shell, I wouldn't be concerned if it did. The case comes with a screen protector, but I removed it today, because I can never get those damn things on without bubbles. I don't mind not having one... the glass seems decent enough to not scratch easily, and if I drop the phone on something hard enough to break the glass, the screen protector wouldn't protect it anyways. The front is raised a bit so the screen wont come in contact with flat surfaces, and even the back of the case is a little bit raised in the corners. I've been carrying this case for about 2 weeks now and it looks good at new. I keep my phone in my front pocket without issues of bulk or weight (at least any that bother me.)

My only complaint about the case is that the little cover for the lightning port connection begins to bend and kind of bulge out in the middle over time. This is due to the fact that it presses against the lightning connector when you're charging, and it starts to bend the little flap, so over time, when you close the flap, it no longer sits flush with the rest of the case. One last thing that bothered me a tiny bit was the screen protector- I didn't notice this right away, so it might've just happened over time, but when viewed at an angle, it has this weird rainbowish waviness/reflectiveness to it. Hard to explain... if you've ever seen spilt motor oil on the floor reflecting in the sun, then you'll know what I'm talking about.
