I have had my OtterBox Defender case for a little over a month now. I take excellent care of all of my electronics - which is why I bought this case in the first place. However like several other people have reported, the plug that covers the charging port has worn down and finally fell off this past week. This is clearly a design flaw as the the way it is made, the standard HTC cable puts pressure on the piece such that it is bent back awkwardly every time it is plugged in. Due to the nature of these phones, charging is obviously something that is going to need to happen several times a week at a minimum and up to one or more times a day for heavy use. It seems to me that the rubber port falling off is an inevitably and in my opinion this warrants this a defective item.
However while I have certainly read other reviews where users are reporting this problem both here and on the various popular android forms, maybe not every case has this problem - but I am skeptical. I will be requesting a replacement immediately and if this happens again I will request a refund and get a new case entirely. I imagine as more people have these cases longer we will start to see this complaint pop up more often.
Other than this flaw - the case is excellent - the installation is easy and it does everything a case is supposed to do.
More over it is a big improvement over the same case for the Evo 4G. The Defender case for the EVO 4G was a wonderful case a well but the rubber was far more flimsy and did not stay in place - i found myself constantly having to move it and put it back in the little grooves. This did not hurt functionality but it was a bit of a pain/irritation.Read more ›
I have three complaints. The first are the same complaint, just in two different parts of the phone.
If you look at the top and right side you will see the headphone jack and the data port respectively. When you put the case on, (very easy although I suggest going to your local store and having them do it, since they use a special solution on the screen so it's PERFECTLY clean. :) They did it for free for me.) You will see that the case covers up these two ports with flaps that are very easy to open and close. When you first get your phone this will work fine and is wonderful... However, after a few weeks-months of use you will find that all the bending of the flaps, (in NORMAL USE!!! The flaps have to bend if you want to charge your phone or plug headphones in.) wear down and break off. These flaps are VERY easy to lose. I've already lost of the top flap. If they could fix this I would add two stars to my rating.
My other complaint. If I could do only a half a star I would do that but since you can only do whole stars I took off one star for this. When you first put on the outer rubber covering it fits nice and snug and is wonderful. :) However, like the flaps, after 3 months of carrying it in my pocket, it's no longer snug. On the back the area beneath the kickstand now bulges out with an air pocket. The two bottom corners keep popping out.
When I first got my new case I was ecstatic, it was wonderful, amazing, perfect. Now after a few months of normal use? meh, it's ok, I guess. If you don't mind keeping track of the two flaps and the rubber not fitting snug like it's suppose to .

The case DOES keep my Evo protected. However, as others have noted, the flaps over where you plug in the charger wore out quickly, in a few months, and I noticed that dust and... Read morePublished 17 months ago by Bubbles76

I was disappointed because it not last very long. Did not bother to use warranty due to the hassle in providing OtterBox proof of the defect.Published 19 months ago by JimCan
