The Defender Series is rugged, essential smartphone protection. This case is made of a clear protective membrane, high-impact polycarbonate shell and durable silicone. It provides added protection against scratches, dust, drops, bumps, and shock.
Top customer reviews
PRO #1 Fits like the proverbial glove, out of the box the plastic is a bit stiff, but anyone who's had more than one Defender cases in their hands can feel a subtle difference in the texture, feel, and "grip-ability" of the material. Black and Red models tend to attract more hair, dust, and pocket lint than lighter colored models like the white or pink. THIS model, much less cat hair and dust sticks to it, and the material is less "grippy" and I can slide it in and out of my pocket with ease and it still doesn't slide off the car seat when I stop. It's bulky but not "too" bulky, like some other recent "rugged" cases released lately, like the Griffin Survivor.
PRO #2 The holster adds considerable bulk to the overall package, but when you need a reliable holster (like when I am in uniform and can't dig it out of my pocket) I know the holster won't release it accidentally and it won't break when you look at it funny. I have used other holsters and clips for iPhones and other devices, only to feel the $400 device tumble to the floor when you stand up or brush up against something... The holster IS important, if you choose to use it. (It's also useful in the car as you can put the iPhone into it facing the back of the case (Max Protection) or facing out (useful to hold it in the vehicle or desk or wherever you find yourself).
PRO #3 The cutout for the screen is wide enough and shaped well so you can easily thumb-type (if you're "old-school" like me) and not feel your thumbs slip on the outer keys next to the edge. Other cases I've tried are cut a little too narrow on the sides and I have to resort to "finger-poke" typing. Note: I am still used to typing with my thumb, and don't really take advantage of the landscape rotating keyboard.
CON #1 There seems to be a weakness in these cases, I've bought several over the years, for an iPhone 3GS, 4, and 4S as well as one for my Atrix. However, there seems to be a weakness in the top left corner of the case between the Ringer switch cover and the headphone jack cover. If you take your iPhone out of the case very often, this area will develop a split and will eventually break. It's not very big but it is annoying.
CON #2 LInt, hair, dust, etc. will eventually accumulate in the small crevices in the case, especially around the camera/light cutout on the back and front. This is minor, and easily cleaned. However, eventually this same material will also find its way under the screen protector and when you routinely take the device out of the case to clean everything you risk wear and tear on the outer case and (See CON#1) your case may eventually split.
OVERALL - I am happy with these cases, the only real CON that gives me angst is the split in the top left of the cases, but perhaps if you're less prone to taking your iPhone out of the case it may not be a problem for you.
This case fits very well with 4/4s iPhone model (as advertised) and feels very solid but not too bulky. I purchased a gray case (with pink realtree design on the back) for my wife and she is very satisfy with its design as it is somewhat feminine but not too much like (too girly - just a personal opinion). One of the good features about the Defender series case is with the built in screen protector(s). This one came with two protectors: Front and the Apple logo on the back. The bottom line is this a good case but it can also be a bit pricy so try to find them on sale. In my opinion, you should not have to spend more than $35 for this case (I ordered thru Amazon.com which costs $46 each- ouch, lack of planning on my part which resulted in higher out of pocket $$).
