I have an Otterbox Defender for my iPhone and it is the ultimate in protection. Got in my white/black Otterbox for my iPad 1 and it is wonderful too. Watched a video from Otter to see exactly how to put on that pesky screen protector, and got it on with just one bubble (dust particle) that drove me insane! Ended up taking the Otterbox apart and ordering a 3-pack of Plain Jane screen protectors, which came in today.

Out of the 3-pack, I ruined 2 putting them on. The bubbles were worse than the Otterbox protector. Then I had an idea, and I won't have another problem with screen protectors again!

Since the Defender completely surrounds the iPad face except for the touch screen, I simply laid the screen protector sheet on the touch screen. No pulling apart adhesive backing or anything. I left all that intact. In fact, now I have 2 layers of protection on my screen! Keeping the protector in place, I slid the Defender case together and had a great screen, no bubbles, and double the protection!

I wish I had thought of that before I bought the 3-pack of protectors, but I wanted to put on this review so others could benefit from my idea. It works great with the Defender because of its design!

if all you care about is protection because you are giving it to a kid or a dropper this is what you want. for me it war way too bulky the reason for a tabelet is to have it with you and small slim portable this defeats that purpose.

My kids recently received an iPad 1 from a relative who was upgrading. I have four relatively young children, so the thought of an iPad without an OtterBox Defender was a frightening proposition! The OtterBox Defender came with illustrated directions and the URL for a video how-to put the iPad in the Defender - I'm a visual learner so I appreciated that. (the video was clear and concise and very easy to follow) You do have to remove the plastic docking door to charge it - which is a bit of an inconvenience (that's different from the OtterBox Defender I have for my iPhone 4S) but definitely a minor one. I don't worry about the iPad nearly as much as I did before - and the price for this peace of mind absolutely could not be beat.

Screen protector installation just a touch tricky, but figured it out with careful review of instructions. Excellent case and well worth the $ but be warned: this case is quite heavy and practically doubles the weight of the iPad. If weight is a primary concern look at other cases.

I have the same case for my iPhone 3GS and absolutely love it. Like the phone case the only bad thing (besides weight) is that the "stickiness" of the rubber casing on the outside means the device is not as easy to slide in and out of pockets or bags. But this is a bonus when setting the device down on most any kind of surface because the phone or iPad doesn't move or migrate (dash of a car while riding and the device is charging, as an example). This is well worth the other inconveniences if you beat the crap out of the electronics like I do. (Army and CrossFit video taping).

Good stuff unless weight is of concern.

If you want to keep your iPad protected, Otterbox is the best. Makes a little bulky but not a big deal. iPads are not cheap so be smart and use the best protection on the market. Great fold out stand, and easy transfer of cover from protect to use. Otterbox makes the best cases for iPads, iPhones, etc so check out other products. They make improvements all the time, and actually respond to suggestions. No other cases compare. I once stepped on my iPad all the way, and not a scratch, bump, or anything. Another time, I accidentally dropped my iPad from the desk to the floor. Again, not a scratch, bump, nick, or problem with the iPad. Only use Otterbox for all Apple products.

This is a nice holder. The main issues I have with it are a tight fit for the glass shield and there is no hole for the power adaptor to plug in. As to the shield when I closed mine up it developed a ripple and I ended up just pulling it off and throwing it away. As to the hole for the power adapter you have to take off a piece that is removable to make the plug sucket available. The problem with this is now a key part of the case is likely to be lost. There are no such issues with the case for the iPad 2 or the new iPad - its a great case.

I bought this to go on my iPad 1st Gen, because the kids had a habit of running off with my iPad.

Being an Otterbox, the case is very sturdy, heavy duty, and I don't worry as much about the iPad getting knocked off the sofa onto the floor. I really like the rubber bumper around it, and it makes the iPad easy to hold. The rubber also makes it easy to prop on the stand, it doesn't slide off the table.

The only downside is the bulky size. You can't have top-notch protection without a little bulk. It does add to the size and weight, considerably.

I have owned a couple of Otterbox products previously and am a fan of their products. Although this is not a minimalist type case, and does add to the size of my iPad, it does do a great job. I knew what to expect in terms of the ruggedness and size of the case, and it is working well. It is funny to think that with the case on it is thicker than my MacBook air, but I certainly feel like it is well protected. It is also great to have a built-in stand for watching movies. My only suggestion, as others mentioned, is that everytime you charge it, it does take some effort to open the bottom access panel piece, though it is certainly better for it to be too tight than too loose. I remember my original iPhone Otterbox that had the flap of rubber that you pulled open to expose the power port. I do think this Otterbox is an improvement over that.

The biggest seller of all here though was the price. $25 was a fair price to pay for this case.
