After receiving my copy of this book from Amazon I read it over a period of five days. My focus of this review is based on who might be interested in reading" In Our Blood". I believe that there are three classes of readers for this book. The first is anyone who has a basic interest in all things about the mafia whether it be limited to Sicily or anywhere there was a presence of this "organization." Justin Cascio traces the early stages of the mafia presence in Sicily and expands his coverage to its global influence including Europe and South America. The second group would include those readers that have a particular interest in how the mafia impacted Sicily with major influence on the city of Corleone. Here Cascio delves into great detail of the mafia families of Corleone and their relationships involving the United States cities where they established strong ties. The third group of readers would be those researchers who revel in well-sourced citations including birth,death and marriage certificates. Here is where the book excels. Cascio, through numerous "trees", illustrates the complex ties that link one family group to another via marriages. The reality present in those depictions leads to my only criticism of his work which could not be avoided due to technical considerations. Trying to fit on one page an illustration with many entities is virtually impossible without creating readability issues. However, this is a small price to pay for the value of the information presented.
Hopefully, this review helps the potential readers of this very valuable contribution to the field to understand why they should own their copy of "In Our Blood".
